(So many barefoot shoe companies only make up to 12 or 13… ) We big-footed people are the ones who struggle the most with squished toes, so thank you Splay!

I’ve got 2 pairs of the 101s and love them. Wide toe, durable, attractive, everything I want.

Groo-oo-oagh! ( Happy Wookiee noise)

Hello Anya, thanks for your excellent coverage of barefoot shoes. I decided to try the style after reading Dr. Peter Attia and purchased one pair from Freet and one from Wildling. I was worried that the transition from Birkenstocks and thick soled sneakers was going to be hard for my 70 years old wide feet, but it wasn’t. My recent purchase is a pair of Splay Freedom. Your review helped me choose based in part on Splay being identified as a US company (I am in Canada). I wish you had mentioned or I had noticed that they are made in China (not desirable for me). I haven’t yet worn the Splays on a walk. When I put them on they felt tighter over top the toes than my others for what it’s worth.

Hi Alicia! There’s a few different spray protectants we use. You can find our favorites here!

I have been wearing “barefoot” shoes since around 2010. I love your site I have learned about so many cool shoes here.

I finally sprung for a pair of Splay Freestyle leather from their factory outlet and I love them. They are so comfy fit perfectly on my low volume foot and they are wide enough that I can wear them with my correct toes! I was just wondering if you had any suggestions on how to treat the leather to help it last and resist water and stains. Many thanks for all your hard work here! I appreciate it. 🙂
Alicia

I think it would be worth your while to review the new “upgraded” Freesayle 2.0. They have a lot less ground feel, they say they did not change the foot shape, but the canvas is much thicker and the upper foot is roomier vertically, but narrower in the width at the widest part of the foot where it matters. They look great, but the old ones are so much more flexible and co.fortable and give you a much better barefoot feel. I’m glad I saved the insoles from an old pair because the new insoles even have a bit of arch support, overall a strange feeling when I’m used to walking around Barefoot or in socks or with a lot of ground feel in my barefoot shoes.

Kids sizes are 4mm, Big Kid/Women’s sizes are 5mm, and Men’s sizes are 6.5mm.

The last time we took his measurement they were 29.4 cm long, which usually converts to a US men’s 13.

Hi! Splay can work fine for narrow feet. As long as the heel is secure and you can tighten it around the midfoot – extra space in the toes is great. Wildling Shoes and PaperKrane would be worth checking out as well.

My 5 year old has narrow feet. Do you think splays or another company is best for narrow feet? Thanks!

I would like to order a couple of pairs to Europe, but I’m not sure if I’ll need to pay for taxes with the most economical shipping option. Anyone that has already ordered from Europe could share the experience?

Thnaks in advance!

I have to say, I haven’t heard that feedback before! I’m trying to think of a more breathable insole option, and I think that these Vivobarefoot performance insoles are one of the better options.

Maybe my feet just run hot, plus I’m in humid Florida. I bought two pairs of Splay a few months ago and I like them but have barely worn them due to them making my feet so hot so fast. I can’t go without an insole. Does an insole exist that isn’t hot? NorthSole’s are hot for me too but seem to be less hot than splay’s.

Hi Anya, thanks for the review.

This question is actually focused on your husbands collection. I am strongly considering my first pair of barefoot shoes and originally decided on Lems. However, now that I’ve read this review and observed the price difference, I’m considering trying Splay first. Does Splay compare well to Lems?
