Thank you for this list, Anya! I like wide box shoes and am looking for something to last longer than Crocs which get dangerously slippery once they lose their grip. Also, the strap on one of my Crocs broke. Crocs are comfortable, but they are do not expensive and cheaply made so they do not last long enough to justify the high price. Thanks for the list, Anya!

Thank you for this list! I am one of those people who loves the wide toe box but prefers more support/cushioning than what a typical barefoot shoe offers.
I just found Splay brand shoes which I really like so hope you will add them to your growing list. I would love to see more dressy shoes listed as you find them.

Thank you for the exposure to so many brands I did not know about! After reading and then perusing the various sites mentioned here, I was interested in Baer, Bahe, and Joe Nimble for example. However, I cannot afford to be blowing $200+ for each pair of shoes.
For now, I will stick with my WHITIN shoes (which is fortunately on this list). WHITIN is fine. I recently started putting in my own insoles and it’s even better. Also, I buy them when they are sale on Amazon and never pay more than like $40 (which is WAY better than $300 like a lot of the fancy ones listed in this article).
I am a 50-year-old male. I dealt with horrible plantar fasciitis (correct name is plantar fasciopathy) for a year and a half. I had a tear. I was walking on concrete for work easily over ten miles per day. Every single step hurt, but I hid it well and suffered through it thinking it would get better on its own… WRONG!
I recently finished my ‘recovery’ phase. I basically stayed off of it as much as I could for nearly 3 months, took vitamins D3 + K2, and magnesium glycinate (every day for five months and counting) to help with tissue repair. I switched to wide toe box shoes and now I am even using toe spacers/spreaders a few hours a day (and doing toe exercises). All my old pain is finally gone. I want to now strengthen my feet after fifty years of wearing expensive shoes that did nothing except lead me to horrible foot pain due to tissue damage and poor foot circulation. Five months ago, I was taking up to 18 ibuprofen a day and it did nothing for the pain. Now I go several days and then realize, ‘Oh! I haven’t taken a single ibuprofen all week! Yay!’
Long story long, WHITIN is cheap and fine (though some models have the STUPIDEST lace/eyelet design – I will NEVER try to take the laces out). I bought two pair (one as backup) and spent $80 total. It’s going to be a long journey, but I already feel the benefits of wide toe box shoes with zero drop.

In reply to Janet. Hi Janet! There are a couple good extra wide sneaker on the market! You can find our favorites here. If you don't need something quite as wide, Mukishoes, Wildlings, and Peerko are less wide and have some great simple white sneakers.

Hi Anya, I am looking for wide toe box shoes as I have (currently mild) Taylor’s bunions. Specifically I am looking for “smart” or “going out” white trainers that are leather and ideally soft and don’t have a chunky sole. I like very simple clean styling – the sort of trainers you can wear with a summer dress or wide leg pants. I don’t need room for orthotics. Any suggestions please? Love your work 🙂 Thanks.

Hi! I’m so grateful for these lists – thank you so much! But I’m also very overwhelmed. So far I’ve tried the Arcus from Wyde (which I was buldging out of at the toes) and the Altra Lone Peak 9 in wide (which still catch my toes and are rubbing my heels awfully). I’m really anxious not to waste any more money. I’m also reluctant to try barefoot shoes as I have EDS. Do you have any advice where to turn next, given Wyde didn’t work for me?

In reply to Kaitlin. Hi Kaitlin, most barefoot shoes actually do accept orthotics well since there is no support inside. Depending on what kind of shoe you're looking (flats, loafers, sneakers, etc.) I would look at our Best Of Lists to find the style you're after!
