I live in Ireland and unfortunately we don’t have any bricks-and-mortar stores that sell barefoot shoes. I bought a few online but really wanted to get a feel for different brands. On my last trip to Germany, I came across this brand ‘Leguano’ and after slipping into this pair of boots I was smitten. Which do you recommend for staying warm? I like a flexible sole but I don’t like when the cold goes right through the sole. Wool or sheepskin lining (or anything really warm) would also be nice.

Hi! I ordered a size up in the be leka like you suggested and it’s WAY too big. I wish I did not do that. It’s a pain to ship back to a different country. So I wanted to put that out there that not ever boot needs to be sized up. Definitely not the move 🙁

If you are looking for rigid, Birkenstock is a good brand for that, so if you are already having success with that brand you might want to check out their boot line. There is also the Lems Chelsea Tuff - pretty rigid but nice looking for everyday wear. I have hypermobility in my feet too, and so I understand how painful and difficult to manage it can be. Hi,
I have complicated feet. I have used only barefoot shoes for years for dance exercise because they have kept my feet happy. Until this year I could wear wide toe box shoes with a small drop (I’ve lived in Hotter boots for years,) but even the slightest heel hurts my feet. I was recently diagnosed with joint hyper mobility in my feet and advised by 2 podiatrists to wear rigid soles to keep my feet stable, and I absolutely have to keep my toes from flexing (which makes life really interesting.) I’ve been wearing Birk’s, and my feet love them—I have a pair with a back strap for going outside, and a pair of slippers which I live in. I just read your piece on why they aren’t the best, and I need some boots for winter but I’m really struggling to find anything flat, with some cushion, and rigid.
