In reply to Lana. For us they've been a lot better than other kids boot brands. We haven't yet had an issue with water coming in, and we've also already had snow that my kids have spent hours in this year already. But I will say that in my experience ALL boots (except full rubber boots) have a limit of waterproofness. After enough time, water will come in. My younger more wild son also often gets snow inside the top of his boots.

Hi Anya. I just wonder if Vivobarefoot tracker winterboot never let you down in terms of waterproofness. I bought a pair for my 4 year-old. The winter weather came early upon us this year in Ontario, Canada. So the boots did get wet from the contact with the wet snow.

We have struck out big time with wildling for wide feet. My son has very wide feet with a ton of volume. We struggle big time to find anything his poor foot can fit in and it’s been a trial with his nature school that he attends in the winter months!

We tried Jan & Jul and found that the weak Velcro didn’t last through the winter :'( also not as much toe room as we needed for our wide footed kid.

My averageish footed kid liked the 10 Little boots (though none of their shoes are wide enough for my wide-footed kid). However, they aren’t water resistant enough for nature preschool.

We also tried the Merrell Bare Steps Boot 2.0 and liked the aesthetics and durability. After a season and a half the velcro gave out, but the rest of the boot was in such good condition that we paid to have the velcro replaced @ our local shoe repair shop. Downside: It was a tripping hazard for our 2yo because there was so much extra space past the middle toes (but not the big toe)

Would love to see a review of the classic baby and baby bogs.

In reply to Thea. Hi Thea. All my blog posts accept comments! But sometimes it takes us a little while to approve and respond to them. Elegant sandals with a bit more sole is a hard category, there really aren't many options. One you can look into is Ahinsa's Comfort line. They are a bit more cushioned than barefoot shoes. You can also try adding this insert to sandals for a little more cushion.

In reply to Jackie. I do think they could work! I normally wear a 37 in Vivo shoes and tried on my son's size 38, and they fit me with a bit of extra space in the length. I do think these run snugger, so the 38 might be a touch close on you. However it'd be worth a try!

Hi Anya,
I’ve read your reviews here a number of times over the past few years – Thankyou for doing such great work. I love the lems work boots and lace up shoes.
I’d love to find sandals in the ‘box toe’ shape with zero lift, but with a decent sole! I’m not a fan of barefoot shoes (thin soles) particularly when spending alot of time on concrete.
I do wear Birkenstocks, but would love to find some more elegant styles.

Do you think the Vivobarefoot Tracker AT big kids size 38 would work for a woman? I love Vivo and consistently wear a 38 in womens sizing. It looks like the kids are actually slightly longer based on the size chart, but that’s probably not too reliable. I do have the women’s explorer mid but am thinking this kids version may be slightly warmer and waterproof? Good thought or will they not fit correctly?

Hi! I’m looking at the vivobarefoot tracker shoes for my 5 year old. She measures a tiny bit more than 18 cm. I see on their size guide she should be a 12 (it says 17.7 cm-18.3 cm is a 12 US). However, you mention sizing up. Would you go up to a 13? Unfortunately they don’t have half sizes! Thank you! And thank you for your guide!

In reply to Ana. Hi there. 15 cm length would be a toddler size, is that correct? In that case, you might like the Vivobarefoot Tracker boots - the toddler sizing is wider than the bigger kids sizes. And you could also try the Ten Little snow boots. We had good luck with that model on little feet.

Morning. I’m hoping to buy waterproof winter boots for my Minnesota 2.5 year old. I’m going off your list and it doesn’t look like Be Lenka carries the Snowfox, Vivobarefoot doesn’t carry the Lumi anymore, and Jan & Jul have a different boot available for preschoolers – the Kids Tall Puffy but it looks like the sole is quite thick. Any suggestions on warm, waterproof winter snow boots for a preschooler in 2025? Thanks so much for what you do!
