A top down look at a whole collection of sandals from Lang. S by Tikki Shoes showing multiple wide toe box feminine sandal options in a variety of neutrals. They are scattered with flowers.

Pretty barefoot sandals will have you forgetting all about the uncomfortable sandals you used to wear. Forget the heels, forget the pointy toe boxes – you can lose all of that without losing any of the style.

Here my all time favorite cute barefoot sandals for women, with the important fit and sizing info you need to find your perfect pair.

Happy Feet Doesn’t Mean Ugly Shoes!

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Be Lenka Summer brown leather sandal next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

I always had a love hate relationship with sandals. When I finally decided to stop wearing ones that hurt my feet I thought I would also have to stop wearing cute sandals. But fortunately, there are tons of stylish barefoot sandals out there so you can look and feel your best during spring and summer – you’ll even find some fancy barefoot sandals for weddings here!

This post covers stylish women’s barefoot sandals. If you’d like more information on barefoot sandals for men, kids or athletic use, see below additional resources for you.

What About Slides & Flip Flops?

A side by side image of a woman wearing two different kinds of shoes. On the left is a flip flop that is falling off her heels. Arrows show that the shoe is not secure to her foot and there is a red cross underneath. On the right is a sandal with an ankle strap that keeps the shoe secure to her foot. An arrow shows that it is not falling off and there is a green check mark underneath.

Before we get to my picks for the best stylish barefoot sandals, I want to talk for a quick sec about slides and flip flops. Those shoes are aptly named, because they SLIDE and they FLOP. There’s nothing to keep them secure to your foot, causing you to grip your toes or walk funny to keep the shoe on. That is why everything on this list has a back strap.

Still want barefoot-friendly slides for quick jaunts outside, beach trips, public showers, etc? I cover these styles as well in my Complete Barefoot Sandals List, even though I don’t recommend them for everyday wear.

The Best Stylish Barefoot Sandals

I look to barefoot sandals to feel cute and stylish while treating my feet right. After trying out hundreds of different barefoot sandals from brands all over the world, below are my picks for the 10 best cute barefoot sandals of all time!

If you want to add a little cushion to your barefoot sandals, check out insoles that work well with sandals here.

Everything on this list I personally own and wear, so you are getting firsthand experience to guide you!

Laboo Leather

Leather | 6mm Thick | Sizes EU 35-45 | Ships from USA or EU

If you are in the EU or want more color options, you can order these from the Laboo Etsy shop.

What I Love About Them: My favorite and most worn stylish barefoot sandals are from Laboo Leather. I take these with me every time I travel because they are so reliably cute, comfortable, and lightweight. The shape of this sandal was created by your truly, years ago when I asked Botond (the shoemaker) to create a custom sole for me. You all clamored over them so much he standardized it and now sells only this shape!

We carry two versions of this sandal at Anya’s Shop, one with a long ankle wrap tie and one with a buckle. The ankle wrap version can be customized to a length you prefer or even trim to be a slip on (see the video in this post to show how to tie).

They’re seriously the best, our top selling sandal year after year. Don’t worry though if your size is sold out, you can sign up for restock notifications because we continually add more!

In 2023 I met up with Botond in Budapest! He is the kindest soul and it was such a joy to get to know him better.

Fit Type/Sizing:

  • Wide fitting
  • Highly adjustable to both low and high volume feet
  • Runs slightly small, but accurate to the size chart. I wear a size 37.

Laboo Leather barefoot sandals have a wide shape, but because the laces are fully adjustable at any point they can easily fit most foot types. Some people with narrow heels have had trouble getting the ankle straps secure enough, but most people get a good fit after tweaking the straps. And once the leather breaks in they conform to your feet even more.

Laboo sandals do run a little bit short in my experience, and I wear one size bigger in Laboo than I normally do in sandals (an EU 37, instead of 36). There is a size chart available at the links above with exact measurements.

Crupon Sandals – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | 6mm Thick | Sizes EU 36-42 | Ships from EU

Code ANYA gets you 10% off!

What I Love About Them: Crupon sandals are timelessly beautiful and you can immediately feel the quality of the leather on your skin. The barefoot line from Crupon has a flexible sole, but the stitching and leather are sturdy so you don’t feel like you’re going to wear through them in one summer. That does mean the leather takes some breaking in, but it’s worth it for the quality.

I love the color options they have, but truthfully end up wearing the neutral most often. They have two sole thickness options, but truthfully there isn’t a hugely noticeable difference between them. I prefer the slightly thicker version, and it is also a little softer. You can also make custom requests for shoes with different color combinations, and different strap lengths – but note they custom orders are not returnable

I’ve been wearing Crupon sandals for years, and in 2023 got to visit their workshop in person. I even got to make a pair!

two pairs of feet standing side by side both wearing black Crupon sandals Nomade, with one in barefoot width and the other in Extra wide width

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Barefoot Line = medium wide fit, Extra Wide Barefoot Line = extra wide fit.
  • Medium to high volume – can be too high volume for me, depending on model. Read my full review for details.
  • Mostly true to size, but slightly long. I recommend referencing their printable size template.

Read my Crupon Barefoot Sandals review here for more details.

Shapen Barefoot – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | 5mm Thick | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU or US

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off Shapen, but note that they don’t accept returns outside the EU. We are also carrying the Shapen Petal sandals at Anya’s Shop in the US this year!

What I Love About Them: Shapen barefoot has some really dressy feminine styles that also fit wide and extra feet – wonderful if you’ve had trouble finding pretty shoes that fit. They are perfect for fancy occasions too. I think they make an excellent ultra-dressy high heel replacement for weddings and black tie events.

The sizing can be tricky with Shapen, but in general they run pretty wide and high volume. If you have a lower volume foot, I recommend the Lily model or choosing another brand. If you want something pretty but need all the room, then the Petal is where it’s at. I sized down to a 35 regular in the Petal and they are still plenty roomy.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Wide to extra wide fit (with the exception of Lily Regular width)
  • High volume feet fit (with the exception of Lily, which has a low volume fit).
  • They run large and roomy, and many people size down unless you have an overall thick wide foot. Always check the size chart.

Lang S Sandals – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather & Vegan Options | 6mm Thick | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU or US

Use code ANYALANG for 10% off directly from Lang S in the EU

What I Love About Them: Lang S Sandals (formerly known as Tikki), are extremely light and flexible with a nice wide forefoot. They’re great if you want classic sandal styling, but have extra wide feet. But they also fit my medium width feet like a dream! Particularly the Soul model – I almost forget I’m wearing them sometimes!

A woman in a light green linen dress and straw hat sitting with a floral bag next to her. She is laughing at the camera, and one foot is showing below her dress, wearing a pair of Lang. S barefoot Sandals in brown leather.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Wide to extra wide fit
  • Adjustable for low to high volume
  • True to size

Huaraches by Anya – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegetable Tanned Leather | 8mm Thick |US women’s 6-11.5 | 2 Widths | Ships from US

Code ANYA for 10% off

What I Love About Them: In 2023 Origo Shoes and I launched a foot-shaped take on an old tradition. Our huarache sandals are made in the traditional way in Michoacán, Mexico – but with a wide toe box upgrade! All the leather is vegetable tanned and chrome free too, so you can safely wear them on bare feet.

The Huarache sandals come in two widths, and we’ve found them to be incredibly versatile and well-fitting. Both Samantha and I wear them all the time (her in wide, me in regular). At this point I have taken mine on numerous trips around the globe, logging tons of miles without a single complaint.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Regular width fits average to slightly wide feet with low to medium volume
  • Wide width is good for extra wide feet and fits medium to high volume.
  • True to size.

Mukishoes – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather or Canvas | 6mm Thick | Sizes EU 36-45 | Ships from US & EU

Sandals will be arriving in the next 1-2 weeks! Use code ANYAMUKI for 10% off the EU store.

What I Love About Them: Mukishoes sandals are very soft and have a generous toe box. The Ibiza model (above left) is an edgy, chunky sandal that fits very securely on different foot types – something I love because barefoot sandals can be very loose on my heels.

The Nazare (above right) is sooo soft and a barefoot replacement for classic Birkenstock sandals. This model tends to fit a little looser, so if you have low volume feet expect to need to wear the straps tight for security. Both were very popular last year, selling out fast. So I am pretty excited to have them come back in stock shortly!

Anya crouching down in a garden center wearing linen clothes, holding a plant, with Mukishoes Nazare barefoot sandals on her feet.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Wide to extra wide fit
  • Adjustable volume, should work for most
  • True to size but slightly big for me. I did not size down

High Feels

Faux Leather | 4.5mm Thick | Sizes EU 35-43 | Ships from EU & US

Use code ANYA for 5% off the EU store.

What I Love About Them: High Feels are gorgeous and sexy. They just opened back up at the end of the 2025 season after being closed for a couple of years, and I am pretty happy about it! They are the ultimate sexy strappy high heels replacement.

The thing I love most about them is that the ankle Y strap closure is a hook, so there is no doing of buckles! You simply hook the strap onto the buckle. These are also quite thin, which I think fits the sleek style. But just be aware that there isn’t really any cushion to these.

In regular width they have a slimmer fit in the heel and midfoot, so may not work for people with high volume feet. But new this year is a wide version. These are on preorder now for May delivery, and I don’t have firsthand knowledge of how these fit. But I have explored the size templates for wide and they definitely have a wide forefoot!

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Medium/slim fit in Regular. Wide/extra wide fit in Wide.
  • Medium to low volume fit
  • True to size

Be Lenka Barefoot

Leather | 6mm Thick | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU & US

You can use ANYASREVIEWS code to get 5% off your Be Lenka store purchase. Currently there is limited selection in the Be Lenka US store.

What I Love About Them: Be Lenka barefoot sandals are classic and versatile. They’ve got a clean silhouette that is easy to dress up or down and wear all season long. This year they are transitioning from their original leather sandals faux leather, so currently not all leather versions are available. The 2.0 faux leather sandals are already available in the EU and will be coming to the US next month.

Besides the material, the key difference between the original and 2.0 is that the 2.0 has more cushion in the footbed – something that many barefoot sandal wearers have requested.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Medium to slim width (except the Iris and Claire models, which are even narrower and I don’t recommend them)
  • Medium volume
  • Mostly true to size, but slightly longer than other brands

Be Lenka sandals have a pretty middle of the road fit type. The Grace and Summer have adjustable velcro straps, which can be trimmed to the length you need.

Feelgrounds – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegan | 6mm Thick | Sizes EU 35-48 | Ships from EU

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off your first order

What I Love About Them: Feelgrounds Seaside sandals are made of a cotton upper and a cork insole, so they feel breathable and soft on foot. The back closure is velcro, so they go on easily, and they have a really clean look to them that can be both casual and dressed up.

They also come in a faux leather version called Luxe that I’m personally not a huge fan of. But they have a higher volume fit than the Twill version.

The cork can get dirty easily, but the nice thing is you can scrub it clean just as easily! You can also wash the fabric strap if it gets stained. They’re just classic and easy to wear.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Extra wide foot shape
  • Medium volume fit – the Twill version works well enough on my low volume feet, and they have a bit of stretch for higher volume feet. The Bamboo version works great on Samantha’s extra wide, high volume feet.
  • True to size – I wear the size 36.

Affordable Barefoot Sandals

Saguaro Sandals – Extra Wide Friendly

Faux-Leather | 3.5mm Thick | Sizes EU 36-44 | Ships from China

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 15% off.

These shiny barefoot sandals from Saguaro have an extra wide fit and an adjustable front strap. Samantha is modeling them for us above. They are definitely the cheapest barefoot-friendly sandal out there! And the metallic lends itself to dressier wear, even though the materials are cheaper.

We found they run on the bigger side. Samantha and I both sized down in them.

Rutsu Sandals

Faux Leather | Sizes EU 37-42 | Ships from US

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 15% off.

These sandals have classic styling, but are made of cheaper materials for a lower price point. I feel like they look pretty mainstream and should be quite versatile for all kinds of different outfits. They are also quite flexible.

More of My Favorites

I like barefoot sandals!! 😀 Here are a few more excellent stylish options you might want to consider, depending on your location and preferences.

Grecian Sandals

Close up side view of Grecian Sandals barefoot dressy sandals being worn by a woman wearing a long green floral dress. The straps are metallic gold and the sandals close with a buckle

Grecian Sandals is a prolific Etsy shop with tons of designs, all of which can be made on a zero drop Vibram outsole. You have to be careful about selecting a style that doesn’t pinch the toes and is on a plain natural leather outsole – the outsoles that are either black or have stitching around the perimeter have a narrower, more tapered shape. I find these fabulous for weddings because they are beautiful but still affordable.

Zeazoo Siren

Side close up view of Zeazoo Siren in medium brown and Leopard leather on a flexible zero drop outsole for all day wear.

Zeazoo Siren is an ultra soft non-pinchy sandal that works well for people with high volume or who are prone to blisters/skin irritation. Zeazoo sandals come in a narrow, regular and wide, but all are built on the same sole. So that really refers to the volume you need. True to size for length.

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off the EU shop. Or you can find a selection of Zeazoo sandals in the US at Anya’s Shop.

Groundies

A side view of a pair of feet slightly pointed and resting on a wood floor wearing Groundies Kos brown leather barefoot sandals with chunky straps

Groundies Kos Sandals are well made and stylish – perfect for fashion forward barefooters who want to stretch their style. There are running low in inventory in the US, but if you’re outside the US you can shop Groundies EU here (there are more options there too).

Juuri

Top down view of two people both wearing Juuri multi tie barefoot sandals in black and white fabrics.

Juuri sandals are a unique alternative to the more classic-looking barefoot sandals available. They have a ribbon tie that can be swapped out for different colors and tied in different ways. This brand also offers two sole widths, catering to both regular and extra wide feet.

Vivobarefoot Sensus Yin

Vivobarefoot doesn’t often have stylish sandals, but the Sensus Yin is cute. It is light and soft, with a medium wide fit. The cupped sole won’t work for extra wide feet, but for average feet they are a nice option.

Code ANYASREVIEWS15 for 15% off.

Softstar Camino

Top down and side view of Softstar Camino minimalist sandals with a cushioned insole being worn by a person with wide feet on grass. The zero drop rubber sole is moderately thick.

The Softstar Camino is a barefoot sandal with plenty of space for your toes, a soft cushioned insole and a flexible but grippy outsole. Like the Birkenstock Arizona, but without the rigid arch support! Read our full Camino Review here.

The Camino Lite from Softstar is the same, but on a thinner outsole. These are a bit of work to break in, hence not included in the main article.

Butterfly Your World

Butterfly Your World has a couple great sandal options in 3 different widths! You can also have them made in many different colors. The 6mm rubber outsole is topped with suede and offers moderate ground feel and great flexibility.

Use code ANYA10 for 10% off.

Jenon Leather

Top Down view of a woman with wide toe splay wearing handmade gold leather sandals from Jenon Leather, a barefoot shoe brand in the Czech Republic

Jenon Leather has lots of sandal options in standard choices, with an option to have them custom made (sole thickness, leather colors, or shape/size). They’re pretty, and well made, and we love them! Everything is handmade to order, so expect to wait 4-5 weeks for production.

Use code JENON11 for 10% off. Read the full Jenon Leather Review here.

Drifter Leather Cut Here

the drifter leather safita & cut here sandals review close up

I adore my Drifter Leather Cut Here sandals. In fact, the only reason they are a runner up and not in the #1 spot is because they’re custom and ordering only opens every 6 weeks or so. They were my very first stylish barefoot sandals years ago and continue to be my all time favorite. If you are considering ordering from The Drifter Leather, read my detailed How To Order Guide.

Let Your Feet Be Free This Summer!

You really have so many cute barefoot sandals to choose from! I hope this guide has helped you narrow down your search for the perfect stylish barefoot sandal for summer, so you can look great and feel great too.

I’d love to hear your thoughts – what stylish barefoot sandals do you love to wear?

The post Spring Style, But Make it Barefoot Shoes – What I’m Most Excited About for 2026 appeared first on Anya's Reviews.

A collage of stylish wide toe box barefoot shoes that are new for spring 2026

The turn of the seasons is always an exciting (and busy time). So many pretty new shoes that respect your feet! Here are the Spring 2026 wide toe box models I am most excited about right now, with the practical fit and sizing info you need to simplify your shopping. You can find all my Fashion, But Make it Barefoot roundups here.

Tired of buying and returning endless shoe orders in search of the perfect fit? Come to the Barefoot Shoe Expo where you can try everything on at once and learn the brands that are right for you. This year it’s in the Chicago area on May 16-17.

A comparison image showing Peerko Tala, a delicate boat shoe, next to a J. Crew boat shoe in a similar style.

Spring is all about feminine silhouettes, bright colors, and whimsical details. Sometimes I like my shoes to be the bold centerpiece, and sometimes I like them to play a supporting role so the rest of the outfit can shine. But the best part? You can achieve just about any look or style without sacrificing your comfort. Here is a roundup of wide toe box and barefoot shoes for 2026 that bring all the style and will have you saying goodbye to your heeled and pointy shoes forever.

Loafers, Flats, & Sandals

Peerko Tala

You can also find these directly from Peerko in the EU, and use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off. Please note that returns are not accepted outside the EU.

Boat shoes have returned with a vengeance, and I’m really not sad about it. They are more sophisticated than a sneaker, but just as comfortable. And made with Peerko’s signature quality materials. These have a slim look to them, but the interior space is roomier than it looks. They have plenty of space above the toes, and have molded to fit my wide toe box quite well. I don’t recommend them for extra wide feet though. I am wearing my usual size 37.

Origo Woven Ballerinas

Black sold out fast, but is being restocked the first few days of April.

New color and restock! Possibly the shoe I am most excited about for 2026. My collaboration with Origo has expanded beyond Huaraches into these handwoven Ballerina mary jane shoes that bring me so much joy! They are beautiful enough to make your non-barefoot shoe wearing friends jealous, and comfortable enough that you can walk all summer long in them.

A annotated comparison image of a single Gold Woven barefoot Mary Jane from Origo Shoes next to a Marc Fisher mary jane in a similar style. Both are set against a grassy background with purple flowers.

Last year we weren’t able to launch them until late in the season, and they sold out immediately. So I’m really happy that we have a full restock and new color ready for you, so that you can enjoy them the entire spring and summer. If colors sell out again, you can expect them to come back in within a month.

Also new this spring, we have added a lovely coral blush color to our huaraches line!

A close up left side view of a person's feet wearing the coral color Origo Huaraches, a leather woven styled flat. The person is wearing jeans and standing on a light wooden floor.

Groundies Cricket

In the US these are temporarily only available in Men’s sizes. But I’ve been told the women’s sizes are returning in April. If you’re size 40 or above, you can shop Men’s Cricket.

Another shoe style making the rounds right now is what Samantha and I have dubbed the grandpa shoe. It is a bit of a cross between a moccasin, a loafer, and a slipper. And similar to boat shoes, they are supremely comfortable, but not sporty. The hilarious part about it is that I was not a fan of this style a year ago, but have since completely changed my tune.

The Groundies Cricket laces up really securely and is very soft and comfortable. They feel roomy and forgiving, even though they don’t look very wide (still not extra wide friendly though). There is a removable insole if you want more volume, and generally I am a huge fan. I do wish I could slip them on and off without doing the laces, but no dice.

Other options include:

High Feels

You can also find these directly from High Feels in the EU, and use code ANYA for 10% off.

They’re back! I have loved these sandals for many a year, but the company took a break and they weren’t available for a while (small business ownership is not for the faint of heart). Well, they finally returned late last summer AND we started carrying them at Anya’s Shop in the US for easier North American access! These are IMO the best sexy high heels replacement for fancy occasions.

An annotated image of a pair of High Feels barefoot sandals compared to a pair of traditional strappy high heeled sandals. Wear This with an arrow is pointing at the High Feels, and Not That is pointing at the high heels.

The standard version does have a slimmer fit and are not likely to work well for extra wide and/or high volume feet, even though the open design allows your feet to comfortably spill over a bit.

But they recently announced a Wide version of this sandal that is on preorder now! We have not personally tried this yet, but I looked at the size guide and it does indeed look extra wide in the toe box. The Wide option shows up for the Rosegold, Blush, and Black models.

Crupon – Thicker sole

Use code ANYA for 10% off

Crupon, longtime favorite of mine, has a new custom midsole option this year. This is in response to the many requests for a bit more cushion. So you can now get the timeless look and quality of Crupon with a bit more sole underneath.

I personally love the Abbie as a fisherman style shoe, and the Fida for that strappy look. Also a longtime fan of the Trevi and Monstera. The new midsole option is only a couple of millimeters thick, so it’s not hugely cushioned. But I do appreciate the bit of extra softness and find that I want to reach for them more when they have the thicker outsole.

Read more Crupon info here for why I am obsessed with this slow-fashion brand that is designed to last for years to come.

Lang.S Sandals & Mira Flats

You can also find these directly from Lang.S in the EU and use code ANYALANG for 10% off.

Lang.S sandals are some of my favorites, but last year we weren’t able to bring them into Anya’s Shop in the US (major bummer!). The Soul sandal has been a favorite of mine for quite a few years now, they are so trusty and easy to wear with a velcro back stsrap. Newer to the line up is the Selene – she has a sexier, more elevated vibe that is still practical for lots of walking. Both are well made, and fit lots of foot types well without pinching and without flopping. And they are extra wide friendly, so an alternative to High Feels if that fit won’t work for you.

And of course, we can’t forget the Mira flats. These also sold out in a flash last fall, and we are finally restocked in black + a new brown. They have a thicker, more cushioned sole than you typically find on barefoot shoes but they are still very flexible and light. So comfortable, and so cute. The Mira flats are in stock and ready for all your spring adventures!

Jenon Two Strip Villet – Extra Wide Friendly

New colors! These have been extremely popular for the last year at Anya’s Shop (the two strap version is exclusive to us), and we haven’t been able to keep them in stock. Currently there is brown and mauve available, and we have a fresh big batch on its way to us that includes the two new colors you see here!

An annotated image of a single Jenon Leather Villet double strap mary jane compared to a conventional pointed toe double strap sling back mary jane. Wear This with an arrow is pointing at Jenon Leather. Not That with an arrow is pointing at the convention option.

This is a mary jane flat that is both pretty, and very versatile. I wear mine all the time because they are so dang comfortable, and they also work wonderfully for Samantha (our extra wide-footed princess). They’ve been a major hit in my Facebook group.

Sizing is true, and they are extra wide friendly while still being secure on thinner feet.

Wildling Collection

Use code AWN_ANYA_S for a one-time free shipping offer

I feel like Wildling often gets left out of the style conversation, because they are not mainstream or typical. But I kind of love that about them. The bright colors make me happy, and they are so breathable and light. The most barefoot shoe of barefoot shoes. The ones that have caught my eye this season are the Cotinga Petrol (a pop of blue is very springy) and the Ranidae in Plum. I wear my Wildling’s often on travel days, because they are so comfy.

They also now have US distribution set up, which means that not all models are available here in the US. If you’re overseas, you get lots more options!! But everything you see here is available in both locations.

Magical Shoes loafers + flats – Extra Wide Friendly

4 photo collage of new barefoot shoe styles from Magical Shoes featuring mary janes with cross strap details, and loafers with removeable fringe. All sporting wide toe boxes and barefoot soles.

Use code ANYA for 10% off

Magical Shoes released several new models this spring, and one that stands out particularly to me is the loafer. They have an optional fringe and are super soft and flexible. They aren’t quite as refined as the Peerko Tala, but they are wider and softer.

Also new from Magical Shoes is an ankle strap flat that I think is really nice. Magical Shoes is a good brand for people with extra wide feet. Just be warned that the ballet flats tend to run big and wide, while the sneakers/loafers/boots run small. I got a size 38 in the loafers and 36 in the ballet flats.

Softstar Dahlia Sandal – Extra Wide Friendly

A top down view of a person standing in grass while wearing a green floral dress and the Softstar Dahlia leather sandals in wide width. The sandals are a light brown leather, with a buckled ankle strap and a panel over the toes that has a scalloped design.

Softstar has released a new feminine sandal that is extra wide friendly! The Dahlia has a pretty scalloped strap, and is soft and flexible. I recommend them for extra wide, high volume feet (Samantha is wearing them, but I passed on them because my feet are rather narrow in the heels). The Dahlia also comes in a regular width, but we find it to be a bit of an odd pointy shape. I’d love for it to come in the shape overall shape as wide, just slimmer across. These also have a bullhide leather outsole which is wonderfully minimal and flexible, but can be slippery on smooth or wet surfaces.

Softstar is also releasing a Primal Ballerine this week. In this model both the Regular and the Wide are square-shaped and wide (Wide is EXTRA wide). Samantha and I both have tester pairs of these and find them pretty wide through the entire length of the shoe, so they are loose on my heels. The sizing has been tricky with these – our first pairs in our usual sizes were too short, then the size up was too long. We’ll update this soon when we have better guidance from Softstar.

Sneakers

Bohempia Orik & Vikla – Extra Wide Friendly

Use code ANYASREVIEWS 10% off the EU store. And at Anya’s Shop in the US you can shop the essential Bohempia collection.

Bohempia has some new releases that are fun for spring, and all Bohempia sneakers come in two widths. That means they are extra wide friendly. I’m a longtime fan of this brand, they are a staple brand if you are into classic sneaker styling.

The Vikla Candy especially catches my eye for spring. They are a fun and colorful slip-on. I’ve worn the Vikla for years now, and the hemp gets better with age. I’m also really liking the Orik in Brown-Tan. It’s creamy and coffee-colored, and brown is everywhere right now. Samantha is wearing those in Wide.

Xero Wynn Red

Another trend this year is color. Though can we really call that a trend? I think it’s more that people are tired of being constrained and want to find joy in the little things.

The Xero Wynn Red gives retro vibes and is an on-point pop of color. They have a slimmer fit that is secure through the midfoot and heel. Good news for people who tend to flop around in their shoes, but they are not super wide in the toe box. The feel is light and flexible, and I find them really comfortable. This is one of Xero’s best shoes, IMO.

True to size. Slightly narrow on my wide toes, but the mesh upper is forgiving and I still wear them comfortably.

Koel Ila Suede

Want to shop in the EU? You can also find these directly from Koel here.

New color and restock of the green suede that sold out in a flash last fall! These are my favorite cool sneakers, and I particularly love the green suede. It styles like a neutral but is also fun and colorful. The suede is also a little softer than the smooth leather Ila with no break in time.

A comparison picture of a pair of Koel Ila green suede versus a convention narrow toe box sneaker in the same style. Wear This with an arrow is pointing at the Koel, and Not That with an arrow is pointing at the conventional sneaker.

In addition to the green being back, we added a new beige with burgundy stripe coloway! And because these are once again selling out fast, we’ve already placed a new restock order and there miiiight be some more colors coming late spring. It’s not hard to see why these were our bestselling sneaker in 2025.

Mukishoes Lyra Rheia

A close up view of a person wearing the Mukishoes Lyra Rheia sneakers with white ruffled crew socks. The sneakers are brown suede and have a white detail below the ankle.

You can also find these directly from Mukishoes in the EU here, and use code ANYAMUKI for 10% off

Alright, Mukishoes launched the Lyra sneakers last spring for the first time and they are soooo soft. So I was really excited when they expanded on that line and introduced several new colors this year. They have your essential white, a very on-trend chocolate brown, and some lovely pops of color. I love them all, but I think I am most excited about the brown.

Pssst … the ruffle socks in the photo above are from Tabio and they’re now in stock at Anya’s Shop!

Annotated image of a single Mukishoes Lyra Rheia sneaker compared to an Adidas show in a similar style, with a narrower toe box. Wear This with an arrow is pointing at the Mukishoes, and Not That with an arrow is pointing at the Adidas.

These are medium wide, but are so soft that they can work for people who are on the wider end of the spectrum. Still probably not advisable for extra wide feet. If you like this style but want a wider fit and/or some extra cushion, check out the Wyde Nova!

Ohne Project – Extra Wide Friendly

Use code ANYAOP10 for 10% off

Ohne makes some of the most stylish shoes in barefoot, I have loved seeing their new styles come out. Most exciting to me this spring is an extra wide version of their ever-popular 080 sneaker. Also, I am really into their Lumi loafers and their Retro Run sneakers. They do an excellent job of being very on-point style wise without cutting corners on the fit.

An annotated comparison image of a single Ohne Project sneaker next to a narrower toe box conventional option. The Ohne Project sneaker says Wear This, and the conventional narrow toe box options says Not That

Ohne is a brand that makes entirely vegan shoes, which sometimes I am not super into because I don’t like plasticky faux leather. However, I have never had an issue with any of Ohne’s materials. In fact they have worn very well and look and feel great. I basically love everything they make!

The person's feet in the center of the top down image is wearing Koel Ila suede barefoot sneakers with burgundy stripes paired with burgundy socks. Other colorways of the same shoes are scattered around, showing the light blue and dark green options.

Give your feet the space they deserve. Barefoot and wide toe box sneakers are drastically more comfortable than big box brands that keep your toes confined, but truly look just as good. Iconic people aren’t interested in conforming anyways!

Find here my top recommended stylish barefoot sneakers that let your feet breathe, for both men and women. I’ve been testing and reviewing barefoot shoes professionally for 8 years, and this is all based on real life experience with practical sizing and ordering tips. Let’s get started!

Why Barefoot Sneakers Are Better Than Big Brands

Why do I care whether or not you wear Nike, Vans, Adidas, or the like? When it comes to footwear, you could do worse (ahem, stilettos). But there are still some valid reasons to consider swapping your big brand sneakers for a barefoot alternative. Barefoot sneakers have the following:

  • Foot Shape: Mainstream sneakers more closely resemble a shank than a human foot, and evidence increasingly shows that footwear can cause bunions and many other foot deformities.
  • Flexibility: Barefoot sneakers are significantly more flexible than most, making them movement and balance friendly.
  • Zero Drop: Most sneakers seem flat, but actually have a small heel lift which can affect your alignment and posture. Over time, that small heel can contribute to foot, ankle, knee, back, even neck pain.
Top down annotated graphic comparing a Koel Ila to a conventional green suede sneakers with side stripes. There is an arrow pointing to the barefoot sneaker and the words "Wear This" and another pointing to the narrow sneaker that says "Not That".

You can read more on the features of barefoot shoes and why they matter in the articles below!

Now that you know why I like barefoot sneakers so much more, let’s dig into the coolest options that match your killer sense of style! These are all applicable to both men and women.

The Best Barefoot Sneakers

1. Koel Ila

Leather | Sizes EU 36-48 | Available At:

Different color options available directly from Koel in the EU!

The Koel Ila and Ilo (men’s version) is my current all time favorite sneaker. They have an excellent fit that leaves room for your toes without being floppy or slidey through the heel and midfoot.

They also have just a touch more cushion and thickness than most barefoot sneakers, which I really enjoy – IMO it makes for a more versatile shoe. I can wear them for miles of walking on concrete, but still enjoy the flexibility and movement they offer.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Wide to extra wide fit – these are wide, but not extra extra wide.
  • Medium volume – Might feel snug on high volume feet, but laces can be opened up for more space.

These have a really universal fit that should work for most foot shapes and volumes. But if you are really wide or high volume, they may not fit. If you want a softer feel out of the box, go for the suede.

2. Shapen Rewind – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | Sizes EU 35-47 | Available At:

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off (but returns are not accepted outside the EU). You can also find Shapen sneakers at Anya’s Shop in the US!

What I Love About Them: The Shapen Rewind is a special kind of sneaker that fits both extra wide feet and slimmer, lower volume feet. They are very soft, light, and flexible and cinch up on most foot types. A removable insole makes them more adaptable as well. They are also so cute, and I find I am always reaching for the joyful pop of color.

They’ve been super popular at Anya’s Shop for the last couple of years, because no break-in time is needed! And they fit Samantha’s extra wide feet too. They’re also good for people who need extra vertical space so their toenails don’t rub the top of the shoe.

Shapen has a number of other sneaker styles, but I’ve found them to be stiffer and less comfortable. Especially on my lower volume feet, the stiffer material on creases and I didn’t like the way it felt. So I stick with Re:wind!

A person sitting on the floor with her legs crossed and arms resting on the knees. She has a slight smile on her face and is wearing a pair of Shapen ReWind barefoot sneakers in Jade and white leather.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs slightly big, but I don’t size down.
  • Extra wide – but they work well on regular width feet too.
  • Medium to High volume & roomy – I am able to cinch them over my low volume feet, and they fit me best with the removable insole that comes with them.

I wear my usual size 37, but have more space in them than I do in many other sneaker brands.

3. Bohempia – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegan | Sizes EU 36-46 | Available At:

You can shop more colors and models at the Bohempia EU store, where you can use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10%.

What I Love About Them: Bohempia barefoot sneakers fulfill that classic look so well. They’re all sustainably made with hemp, and they’re one of the only brands to offer a regular and wide width. The sole looks thick, but the rubber wall comes up much higher than the sole so you still are close to the ground.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size
  • Comes in two widths: Regular is average to slightly wide fit, Wide is extra wide fitting.
  • High volume – I need to add an extra insole or tongue pads in mine, because they have more volume than I need.
  • Removable insole

I wear a size 37 regular width in mine.

You can read my in-depth Bohempia review here.

4. Splay – Cushioned Option

Canvas & Leather | Sizes EU 24-47/US kids 8 – M13 | Available At:

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off

What I Love About Them: Splay shoes are a great entry point for those new to barefoot shoes because they have a classic American look and a wide toe box, but aren’t super thin (though the sole is much thinner than it appears to be). They also come with a removable insole for more versatility.

They also offer several more affordable options, which is greatly appreciated. And for the price they offer good value. This brand also has a specialized skate line (the Rev series)with extra durable outsoles and uppers, and a slightly wider toe box than their other models.

And if you want a more cushioned option, the Runner V1 has a standard thickness to its sole while still being flat and spacious.

A full body photo of a woman in flare leg jeans and a navy blue sweater looking at the camera. She has Splay Rev LT sneakers with an anatomical toe box on her feet.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs slightly small in women’s sizes for most models, so I size up to a 7 (6.5 is my usual size). Rev-S series does not run small and is roomier.
  • Average to wide width, extra wide in Rev-S
  • Medium to high volume (can vary a lot by model though)
  • Removable insole

5. Be Lenka & Barebarics – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather & Vegan Options | Sizes EU 36-47 | Available At:

You can use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off at Be Lenka. We also carry many Be Lenka models at Anya’s Shop in the US!

What I Love About Them: Be Lenka is another brand that makes very high quality barefoot sneakers – they combine the best shoe making techniques, great style, AND the features of barefoot shoes all in one. They are more classic in style, and not quite as immediately soft as Koel Ila or Shapen Re:Wind. But I love them, and so do our Anya’s Shop customers.

The Barebarics Zing is a perennial favorite with a durable, urban outsole and classic styling. They are heavier and more robust than the other options presented here, but for someone who doesn’t want full barefoot but does want all the toe space it’s a great choice.

A woman in a tank top, Madewell 90s Straight jeans, styled with Barebarics Wave barefoot wide toe box sneakers

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size
  • Wide to slightly extra wide fit for Be Lenka, extra wide for Barebarics models. Both should fit most foot types, except for very square.
  • Medium volume – there is some variation between models, but for the most part they are right in the middle. Barebarics tend to be higher volume.
  • Removable insole

6. Wyde Nova – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | Sizes EU 36-47 | Available at:

Code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off. These shoes ship from the US or the EU, depending on where you order from.

What I Love About Them: True to their name, these are extra WIDE sneakers! Despite the chunky looking outsole, it’s actually only 10mm thick and decently flexible for that stack height. These are great if you have really wide feet and also want a little cushion.

These have been really popular among my readers, because there are lots of people who need all the space and some cushion. But truthfully, they don’t fit my foot type well (too low volume and narrow in the heels). Samantha has tested them for us and is modeling them in the pictures above.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size for length
  • Extra wide fit
  • High volume

7. Peerko

Leather & Canvas Option | Sizes EU 37-45 | Available At:

Use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off directly from Peerko EU (they don’t accept returns outside the EU!). Or you can shop in the US at Anya’s Shop.

What I Love About Them: Peerko sneakers have a really nice fit with a mainstream look, but they are still very flexible. They have more of a barefoot feel than Barebarics, for example, so are great for someone who want that flexibility in a classic looking sneaker.

I also have found that they hold up well to wear, and still look sleek even after being broken in.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size
  • Wide fit – these are similarly shaped to Koel, and fit wide but still not extra wide.
  • Medium to volume, but should also fit high and low volume because of the laces. I wear mine as is without any modifications.
  • Removable insole

8. Mukishoes

Vegan, Leather & Wool Options | Sizes EU 36-48 | Available At:

Use code ANYAMUKI for 10% off their EU store. We also carry select Mukishoes sneakers in the US at Anya’s Shop during the spring/summer season.

What I Love About Them: Mukishoes barefoot sneakers are next level light and flexible. They are very minimal, with thin and soft soles that bend in all directions, so you get a real barefoot experience in them. But they still look stylish, and they always have unique colors and prints each season. My personal favorite line is Lyra (above right). They are supremely soft and feel more generous in the toes than their others.

Another thing I love about Mukishoes is that they care deeply about choosing sustainable materials and manufacturing processes. As I’ve gotten to know the founders over the years, I’ve been so impressed with how they stayed true to those original ideals even when it is more difficult.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs slightly small – I often wear a size 38 in Mukishoes sneakers, because they fit a little snugger than other brands. In Lyra I wear a 37.
  • Average width – but the natural materials stretch well so can accommodate wider feet too. The outsole is so flexible it spreads out underfoot.
  • High volume, so I almost always use an extra insole with them (sold separately).

9. Whitin

Textile | Sizes US 5.5W -13.5M | Available At:

What I Love About Them: Whitin casual sneakers have a classic mainstream look but are significantly cheaper than most other stylish barefoot sneakers. They are definitely more cheaply made, which can sometimes be bothersome (they have some seams that rub if I wear them without socks) but overall they are a solid shoe option. And I like that they have some barefoot and some cushioned option with the wide toe box. You can find the Whitin Wide Toe Box (but not barefoot) options here.

In fact, I often recommend these to people who want to try out the concept of a wide toe box shoe but really don’t know where to start. Whitin sneakers are good for figuring out what you like and whether you want to try out higher quality brands. They’re also excellent for fast-growing teens. My son’s feet have been growing constantly the last 6 months, so it’s saved me some money to go with a cheaper option.

A couple notes re: barefoot features – Whitin sneakers have a little bit of toe spring on some models that feels a little bothersome to me if I wear them a long time. It’s not a huge concern for me, but if you have a history of plantar fasciitis I personally would avoid this.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs on the small side – I size up to a 38 consistently
  • Wide to extra wide fit.
  • High volume
  • Removable insole

10. Groundies – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegan & Leather Options | Sizes EU 36-48 | Available At:

What I Love About Them: Groundies Barefoot sneakers are some of the most stylish around, and there are a dizzying amount of options and styles! The quality is excellent, and if you go with the original rubber GO1 outsoles they are very flexible and comfortable. The nova is my personal favorite, and it comes in extra wide. The Panama is also really cute, but only comes in one width.

Also, this is a brand that offers two widths. Just be aware that Groundies sells a line they call “Barefoot Lite” which is not foot-shaped. I only recommend Barefoot and Barefoot+ sneakers from Groundies.

Sizing & Fit Type:

Groundies Barefoot is:

  • True to size
  • Medium width – these are on the slimmer side for barefoot shoes, and really only just wide enough for me. I prefer the fit of the GO1 sole, as it feels roomier.
  • Medium to high volume – GO1 sneakers fit more medium to low volume, GS1 sneakers are high volume.

And Groundies Barefoot+ sizing:

  • Runs slightly big
  • Extra wide fit
  • Medium to high volume.

Barefoot+ is overall bigger and roomier, but still can cinch down to fit lower volume feet.

11. Ohne Project – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegan | Sizes EU 36-47 | Available At:

Use code ANYAOP10 for 10% off

What I Love About Them: Ohne Project sneakers have a high-end, fashion-forward look and feel. They offer some really fun, bright colors and accents, so if you’ve been searching tirelessly for the right sneaker to perfectly pair with that hard-to-match outfit, you might find what you’ve been looking for at Ohne. All their products are vegan and earth friendly, using plant based material for their vegan leather (it’s not plasticky and feels really nice!).

Ohne sneakers also have a bit of extra cushioning and slightly less flexible sole. Still has a good natural feel, but not on the level of Mukishoes or Feelgrounds. Another awesome thing about Ohne, as of this spring they have an extra wide option in their popular 080 sneaker!

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size fit
  • Generous width to the toe-box in their standard line — wider than average and a great fit for most foot types. Their 080 Wide sneaker is extra wide.
  • Low to medium volume — I have low-volume feet and love the fit, but if you have a medium volume foot you might need to take out the insole, and a high volume foot may not fit comfortably at all.

12. Lems Shoes – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegan & Leather Options | Sizes US W5-M15 | Available At:

If you’re outside the US, shop Lems at Lems EU.

What I Love About Them: Justin and I love our Lems sneakers. I wear the Laguna slip-ons (above right) several times a week and have for the last few years. The heel is collapsible, so I keep them by the back door and am always slipping them on for a quick errand or to take the kids to school. Justin loves the Chillum, and we have introduced many of our friends to barefoot shoes through the unparalleled comfort of the Primal Zen Suede sneakers (above left, these are Lems widest model).

Lems sneakers are unique because they have a thicker sole than most barefoot shoes, but are still very lightweight and flexible. This makes them an excellent choice for people who are not comfortable in thin soles but want all the other benefits of barefoot shoes. I love to rotate in the extra cushion for long walks on the pavement.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs small – I typically order a half size up from my usual.
  • Wide to extra wide – Lems Shoes come in multiple fits. Wide is wide (ha) and Widest is extra wide approved. I wear both, but hands down the Widest models are the comfiest.
  • Medium volume – Lems sneakers are a little closer fitting than their boots, and keep my heel and ankle secure. But they are still quite roomy if you need vertical toe space or have high arches!
  • Removable insoles

13. Xero Shoes

Vegan | Sizes US W5-M15 | Available At:

What I Love About Them: The Xero makes a few casual sneakers that I dig, such as the Dillon (slip-on and lace up) and the Wynn. They are flexible, low profile, and easy to wear. Solid kicks IMO!

If you are someone who wants the toe space, but finds that many barefoot shoes are massive and floppy on you – these are good options to look at. They are fitted through the heel and midfoot, and have a slimmer fit overall.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size
  • Medium width – good for average feet, but not an extra wide toe box
  • Medium volume – historically Xero has been very high volume, but their recent casual sneaker line has a closer fit that I think is much better.
  • Removable insoles

Note that the men’s and women’s shoes from Xero are different widths. So if you fit into a men’s size and need a wider shoe, that’s the way to go. You can read my Xero Shoes Reviews here!

14. Dolfie Paradise – Cushioned Option

Leather | Sizes EU 35-49/US W5-M15 | Available At:

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off.

What I Love About Them: Dolfie Paradise sneakers were a runaway hit in 2025. The two pairs you see above quickly became among my most worn. The quality is top tier, the materials are so soft, the sole has cushion and flexibility (great for long days when you don’t want a very thin sole). And they are so cool looking. The only problem is that they spend a lot of time sold out! A big restock is coming this year, and I’ll be sure to update you in the Barefoot Shoe Digest. As soon as Dolfie gets reliable inventory, these will be much closer to the top of this list!

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size
  • Wide to Extra wide fit – not quite as wide as Shapen Re:Wind, but wider than most other brands listed here.
  • Low to high volume – They come with two different insoles, one more cushioned the others. You can swap them around for different foot volumes.

15. Vivobarefoot

Vegan & Leather Options | Sizes EU 33-49 | Available At:

Use code ANYASREVIEWS15 for 15% off

What I Love About Them: Vivobarefoot sneakers are consistently well made and durable. My personal favorite is the Primus Lite, because it’s sleek and classic. One con to Vivo sneakers is that they tend to make my feet sweat. The upside is that they last a long time despite being thin and flexible. They also are so thin that I don’t like wearing stomping around on pavement. But if you’re a barefoot purist, there some of the best out there.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs long, but I don’t size down.
  • Average to slim width – Vivo sneakers have a narrower fit than most other barefoot brands. They are also sloped shape, so even though they are slim they provide a lot of big toe space (just not a ton of outer toe space, for people with squarer feet).
  • Medium to lower volume – these tend to have a shallower fit, but it can depend on the model.
  • Removable insoles

Men’s and Women’s models are different widths, so if you fit into men’s sizes and have a wider foot that is a great way to go.

Barefoot Sneaker Runner Ups

I organized 27 different barefoot sneaker brands in order from the narrowest toe box to the widest. Check them out below! Keep in mind that I was looking specifically at toe box width – you can see there are many variations in shape and width in other parts of the shoes (like the instep and the heel).

December marks the 7th anniversary of Anya’s Reviews, so let’s take a little walk down memory lane! It’s been a joyous 7 years of challenging the status quo of shoes and encouraging everyday people to embrace foot health – because so many people are quietly suffering with pain (just like I was) and in many cases it can be easily avoided by wearing different shoes.

But it’s so much easier to do when it’s fun and enjoyable, right?! I began my “Wear This, Not That” and “Fashion, But Make it Barefoot Shoes” series back when there were not many options in the lifestyle category, but it has always been my favorite thing to do. I hope you can feel my joy as you read! So in celebration of this journey, I am recreating one of my first style guides. Once a diva, always a diva.

A collage of a woman styling different holiday party outfits each with a different pair of foot-shaped barefoot shoes.
At a time when the conversation around barefoot shoes was dominated by athletic performance, I was hoping to advocate for all of us to consider our EVERYDAY shoes and lifestyle. Also I am laughing at how I no longer smile in my pictures (I truly am a subdued not overly smiley person in real life, so I think I just settled into what’s more me).

With holiday season upon us, here are outfits I would actually wear during the holiday season in 2025. The barefoot shoes that I have on look just as good as trending styles, but are infinitely kinder to my body.

And these days, you get to hear from more than me. Samantha is also sharing her top picks!

Tall Boots

A collage of a woman showing two different outfit styling with tall barefoot boots, Peerko Regina, Peerko Empie, and Shapen Glam from Anya's Shop

My favorite outfit combo for dressing up in the cold months is a tall boot with a skirt or dress. If you add in warm tights, it’s surprisingly warm and cozy, while still looking classy.

A close up of a pair of tall leather Peerko Regina barefoot riding style boots being worn by a person sitting on a large boulder.

Peerko Regina – I’m obsessed with these. They come in a Regular and Narrow calf option. I love that, because I have slim calved and often struggle with tall boots being too gapey.

You can also find the Regina directly from Peerko in the EU here, where they recently restocked.

A close up from the front of a woman's lower legs standing in front of tall grass wearing grey boot socks and brown leather tall lace up barefoot boots - the Peerko Empire in brandy color.

Peerko Empire – THE BEST. Like the Regina, they have a really good fit and elegant look. They last well and feel great.

You can find the Empire directly from Peerko in the EU here.

A slim calf option is the Koel Hydra! They aren’t quite as wide in the toe box, but really nice if you want a slim fit.

A side close up view of a pair of Shapen Glan tall black riding boots with buckle details and a flat flexible outsole. They are shown with a green floral dress peeking at the top of the frame.

Shapen GlamSamantha’s extra wide friendly pick! These are very roomy and great for the widest of feet, while still being chic. The buckles add just enough pizazz. Another tall boot favorite of Samantha’s is the Shapen Abby (use code ANYA5 for 5% off).

Flats & Loafers

A collage of a woman showing two different outfit styling with dressy barefoot flats and loafers - Origo Shoes two strap mary jane, Be lenka rosaluna, and shapen Orchid

Visible socks are trendy, and it makes it so easy to wear flats and loafers through the cold months. My favorite is with full length pants, but you really can wear them with anything.

A pair of feet resting on the ground wearing Be Lenka Rosaluna wide toe box flats with a cap toe look. The foot closest to the camera has the heel lifted and a pair of dark wash wide leg jeans are hanging at the ankle.

Be Lenka Rosaluna – A great choice for an office party. These are a cross between a flat and a loafer, and have that chic black toe cap.

A top down view of a pair of feet standing on pavement wearing burgundy Origo Shoes two strap mary janes with a wide toe box

Origo Mary Janes – You can never go wrong with a mary jane! I love the simplicity of these, and the two straps gives them a little extra something. I reach for mine often because they are cute and secure on my feet. Use code ANYA for 10% off.

Looking for an extra wide fit? The Jenon Two Strap Villet is your friend.

Shapen Orchid in red being put on a pair of feet. The front foot is lifted off the ground highlighting the flexible zero drop outsole

Shapen OrchidSamantha’s extra wide friendly pick! This shoe comes in two widths, so works for my more average width feet too. They’re a long time favorite of both of ours because they’re just so dang pretty. And the suede feels perfect for the holiday season. Runs long! We recommend ordering one size down.

You can also find the Orchid directly from Shapen in the EU here and use code ANYA5 for 5% off.

Ankle Boots

A collage of a woman showing two different outfit styling with barefoot ankle boots - Mukishoes Alentejo, Zaqq Riquet, and Groundies Camden Barefoot+

These ankle boots are my answer to not knowing what to wear in the winter.

A clos eup of the side of a pair of Zaqq Riquet barefoot leather ankle boots with a buckle.

Zaqq Riquet – Long time favorite of mine! They are sleek like a Chelsea, but more elegant with the little buckle. Soft and wearable, and easy to dress up.

You can find the Riquet directly from Zaqq in the EU here.

A close up view of a pair of feet standing outside wearing Mukishoes Alentejo brown leather lace up barefoot boots

Mukishoes Alentejo – These are one of my favorite lace up boots because they have such a classic look that I find so easy to style. They are also very light and soft and just so dang comfy. The lining is a soft cotton, so they can work for warmer climates too.

Another favorite of mine this year is the Mukishoes Lapedo, which are available in the US at PedTerra. They are similarly crazy soft and comfy, but warmer with a fluffy lining.

Top down close up of a pair of extra wide toe box chelsea boots from Groundies. The Camden in Barefoot+ offers extra toe room and is shown in black suede worn with black tights and a champagne velvet dress

Groundies Camden Barefoot+ Samantha’s extra wide friendly pick! These also come in regular Barefoot width if you don’t need extra wide. They have a nice close fitting heel for a sleek fit while being so easy to pull and run out the door in.

Casual Shoes

A collage of a woman showing two different outfit styling with casual barefoot shoes, Raum Good Mecca and Shapen Rewind from Anya's Shop.

Let’s be honest, a lot of time I don’t dress up for holiday gatherings. Here are a couple go to shoes I reach for when I’m feeling casual.

A top down and side look at a pair of Raum Goods Mecca moccasin style barefoot shoes in a light brown suede. A pair of cuffed wide leg jeans are worn with the wide toe box trendy shoes.

Raum Goods Mecca – In all honesty I didn’t like these at first. But I had them by the door and ended up wearing them out, and now I can’t stop. I used to wear tan suede moccasins with everything, because they’re as comfy as a sneaker but don’t have an athleisure vibe. These are just like that, and it turns out they go with most of my wardrobe!

This style seems to be trending, you can find a similar look from Groundies.

A line up of 3 people wearing Shapen ReWind soft leather barefoot sneakers in 3 different colors - Mint, gray, and peach. Their feet are resting on a bench and they are all wearing different denim washes

Shapen RewindSamantha’s extra wide friendly pick! Oh the perennial favorite. Samantha and I both love these. They are SO soft and also super cute. Got lots of toe space, but fit securely so they work for a lot of different foot types.

Shop the Rewind directly from Shapen in the EU here where you can use code ANYA5 for 5% off).

Best Pants for Barefoot Shoes

I get asked all the time about where I get my pants from, and I get it! It’s hard to find jeans that work well with barefoot shoes because they have a lower profile than more other shoes.

In this world of fast fashion, some of my favorites are no longer available. But fortunately a few of them are still around and I’ve linked them below.

A woman smiling at the camera wearing a sweater, denim, and Xero Shoes Leopard print phoenix barefoot knit ballet flats

Madewell Wide Leg Jeans – These come in Petite, Plus, and Tall. Hit at just the right place to not swallow your barefoot shoes, but highlight them. Great classic fit in a quality denim.

A woman posing for the camera wearing a knit top, wide leg pants, and brown leather barefoot ballet flats - the Softstar Ballerine ankle strap

Quince Bella Stretch – These wide leg pants are only $50 and are so soft and comfortable. They are one of the only pairs of pants I don’t rip off as soon as I get home. They come in several lengths too. The shortest length is good for my 5’3″ frame.

A woman in cropped dark denim and a burnt orange long sleeve top, standing on the dock of a lake with a handbag over her shoulder. She is looking off to the left with a slight smile on her face. On her feet are a pair of barefoot chelsea boots from Xero Shoes, a collabration with Anya's Reviews. The wide toe box taupe Tari II finishes the woman's outfit with a quiet elegance.

Anthropologie Colette – These stretchy pants come in so many different options and they have inclusive sizing and lengths. They even have an adaptive version for people with limited mobility. The crop is perfect with barefoot boots. I also have them in corduroy!

A picture of a woman wearing By Anya Faye wide toe box boots and wide leg jeans and a sweater looking at the camera.

Banana Republic Factory Straight Leg – I got a killer deal on these and they’ve been perfect this fall with all my boots. Looks like they’re selling out right now, but wanted to share another cropped pant I’m loving. I got them in a dark and a light wash and love both.

A woman standing wearing light blue denim, Groundies barefoot loafers, smiling at the camera.

Aritzia Remy Jeans – I wear these ones a ton. They have a really nice cut to them that is lengthening and the waist IS NOT TOO TIGHT! They also have some weight to them and low stretch (99% cotton, 1% elastane), which I love in the colder months, and they last longer than stretchy jeans. The Remy come in two lengths, but not petite so I had to get mine hemmed so that they skimmed my shoes just right. Worth it.

A collage featuring 7 different stylish barefoot shoes ranging from flats to cowboy boots in a collage style grid. Feelgrounds, Koel, Xero Shoes, Zaqq, and Shapen Barefoot are brand represented

What a line up! If you love comfort but don’t love boring, there’s never been a better time to start wearing barefoot shoes. These stylish options are so much more than fashion – I love wide toe box shoes because they respect my anatomy, help me feel good in my body, and free me up to live a full life. And when they’re this cute too, well. Twist my arm!

Here are the best stylish wide toe box shoes that are new for fall 2025!

Best New Boots

Groundies Tucson

In the EU store you can use code ANYA15 for 15% off non-sale items until Oct. 31 2025! They are also currently on sale in the US store without a code.

Western style is still having its moment in the spotlight and I am 100% here for it. The Groundies Tucson has subtle cowgirl vibes and is supremely soft. They feel like velvety slippers! The ultra flexibility can make them look more casual (because they crease a lot when I walk/bend my feet), but for the comfort I will absolutely take it. J’adore.

A full body view of a woman in a long sleeve cream shirt, navy floral flowy skirt, and Groundies Tuscon barefoot cowboy style boots with a wide toe box.

This is a new sole from Groundies and it’s kinda long! I have a size 37 and they fit like a 38 in length (which is fine for me in boots with socks). They are medium width, but so soft that they don’t feel constricting. I am glad I did not size up! Not suited for extra wide feet.

Shapen Arizona – Wide Foot Approved

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off (Shapen does not accept returns outside the EU).

Now this is a cowgirl boot for extra wide feet! The Shapen Arizona has stitching details, a tall shaft, and an inside zipper. They are leather lined, so can be worn through a lot of the year. Definitely a style that stands out from the crowd! They are overall roomy, and I can wear socks and an insole with them in size 37. Good for wide, high volume feet.

Koel Fiona all-brown

You can also find the Fiona directly from Koel in the EU here.

Technically these launched in April, but I’ve not shared them yet because my mind was on spring/summer shoes! The Fiona has a shorter shaft than the Shapen Arizona, which makes them easier to style with pants. They are also leather lined, for multi-season use, and have a decently durable outsole. The fit is more average width, with medium volume (so they fit my foot type a little better).

Xero Tari II

New from Xero this fall is the Tari II. Oh, and I helped designed them! They stand out from the crowd with the buckle detailing and this trendy taupe colorway. They’re exactly like the kind of ankle boot I used to wear, but that would kill my back and feet. Looking at the picture below, it’s not hard to see why….

A side by side collage of the same woman wearing the same outfit but two different pairs of shoes. The left shoe is the Xero Tari II Doeskin by Anya barefoot chelsea boot with a flat sole and the right is a similar style of boot with a block heel. Anya is standing upright in the flat shoes, but is leaning forward in the heeled boots because the height of the heel pushes her weight forward.

You can read my Tari II Review for details on sizing and fit!

Vivo Chelsea Sensus

Use code ANYASREVIEWS15 for 15% off

I have been waiting a long time for these!!! We have an abundance of barefoot Chelsea boots, and I really love so many of them, but for people with lower volume feet it’s tough to find something not floppy. The Vivo Chelsea Sensus has a slimmer, closer fit through the midfoot and heel and an overall sleek look. They hold their shape (don’t look frumpy) and are a reliable outfit completer. So glad Vivobarefoot brought this silhouette back.

Without the insole they should still work for medium volume feet! But do have an overall close fit. Average to slightly wide in width, and true to size for length.

Peerko Boots

You can use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off the EU store, but note that they don’t accept returns outside the EU.

This fall Peerko launched a new high gloss boot called the Pulse – they have the amazing fit and quality that we love Peerko for, but in an edgy patent leather (that is still flexible!). I love being able to snazz up an outfit without sacrificing my comfort.

Not exactly new for Peerko but new in the US is the Maroon Go (above right). It has a gorgeous embossed floral patten on the ankle that adds a touch of romanticism to your outfit. It’s the kind of subtle detail that makes them extra special but without making them impractical to style.

Learn more about the fit and sizing of Peerko boots here (and why I love them so much!)

Zaqq Qlare

You can also find these directly from Zaqq in the EU here

I love a little personality on my shoes. Zaqq is an underrated barefoot shoe brand – they have a good fit, feel, and amazing style. I love a simple black boot, don’t get me wrong. But if you’re looking for something more eye-catching, the Qlare’s studded heel is a nod to a current trend without being over the top. These are true to size, average width, and medium to high volume.

Best New Flats & Dress Shoes

Xero Leopard Phoenix

The Xero Phoenix has been around a while, and I have been a long-time fan. But new this year is a leopard and snake print! They are soft, stretchy, and comfortable – a great alternative to the pointy toe flats you see around. I have them in a size 6, and recommend sizing down if you are in-between because they stretch out slightly.

Shapen Coco – Wide Foot Approved

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off (returns not accepted outside the EU)

These are a fun new Mary Jane from Shapen. They have a wide fit, but feel secure because of the buckle strap. Shapen tends to be too high volume for me (and these are a little bit), but I can still comfortably wear them and really love the style. The leather is stiff, so I predict someone with an extra wide foot would feel more pinched in these when they are brand new. Mine are a size 37, and true to size for me.

Feelgrounds Loafers

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off your first purchase

The penny loafer is having a moment, and there are quite a few new options in barefoot shoes! My favorite fit is the new Feelgrounds loafer. They have a nice universal shape to them that will fit a lot of foot shapes and widths. The heel is kind of gapey for me and Justin, so will work better for people with more volume.

Other similar models out now are the Groundies Brisbane (really cute, but run long!) and the FeetSutra loafer.

Origo Men’s Derby – Wide Foot Approved

A top down view of two shoes side by side. On the left is the Origo Men's barefoot derby dress shoe in a taupe suede with a wide toe box. To the right is a conventional men's dress shoe in the same leather type but with a pointy narrow toe, and the words "Wear this, not that" super imposed over the image

Use code ANYA for 10% off

Origo launched a men’s dress shoe this season that has such a nice, classic look to them. The Derby has an uncompromisingly wide toe box, excellent flexibility, and still has elevated dress shoe detailing. Justin has flat, low volume feet and found them to be a good width but a little loose on him overall. They will work great for thick, wide feet.

Lang.S Mira – Wide Foot Approved

You can also find these directly from Lang.S and use code ANYALANG for 10% off.

These lovelies moved FAST. But I wanted to include the Lang.S Mira in this roundup because a restock will come in the next months. They are extremely comfortable and so cute! They have a thicker, cushier sole than you often find on barefoot shoes, but are still superbly flexible. The suede upper and chrome-free leather lining are so soft and breathable. We will definitely be getting more and carrying them through next year!

You can also find a similar style from Sambas the Bambas (but I have not tried them myself).

Best New Sneakers

Mukishoes Una Moo

Cow print is a thing right now, and Mukishoes is combining it with a new sole that looks chunkier but is still uber flexible and thin. The sizing and fit of this new sole is pretty similar to Mukishoes other sneaker outsole, but it fits more medium volume (as opposed to high volume). I can wear them without an extra insole in my usual size 37. They are medium width.

Another option in this style that we haven’t tried yet is the Dolfie Paradise Cow print, where you can use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off.

Splay Freestyle 3.0

A close up of Splay Freestyle 3.0 in a white canvas, an affordable lace up basic sneaker

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for an extra 10% off.

The much anticipated re-launch of the Splay Freestyle is here! This flagship model from Splay has been through a few updates over the years, and this one is bringing it back closer to the original. They are now with a wider toe box and softer more flexible sole, and have a removable insole for a customized fit.

They are not quite extra wide, but they are generous and comfortable for me. After wearing them around the neighborhood for a mile or two they became super flexible and I’ve been enjoying slipping them on for outings and walks. Sizing is pretty true, but slightly small. If in-between I recommend sizing up.

Ohne Sneakerina

Use code ANYAOP10 for 10% off.

These were so fun I had to try them as soon as I saw them on the website. I love basically everything from Ohne, but this is a totally new and unique style. And the color! They do run short – these are a size 37 and I kind of wish I had them in a 38. And the width is quite generous (we think they’ll fit Samantha, but want to corroborate before recommending them as extra wide).

Read my Ohne Project review for more brand details!

Koel Ila Suede

Eek! I love both so much. The Koel Ila has been an extremely popular sneaker in the barefoot shoe crowd for the last year, and the suede version is perfect for fall. Both these colors do double duty as a neutral and as a pop of color. The fit is really good with a wide toe box and fitted, cushioned heel. Overall crowd pleaser!

If you’re worried about getting the light blue dirty, I highly recommend using a spray protectant. That’s how I protect my Shapen Orchid Beige flats and other light colored suede shoes, and it works really well (just don’t forget to reapply periodically).

Groundies Nova GO1 – Wide Foot Approved

In the EU store you can use code ANYA15 for 15% off non-sale items until Oct. 31 2025! They are also currently on sale in the US store without a code.

For the first time, the popular Groundies Nova sneaker is available in Barefoot+! They are super cute shoes, with an extra wide fit and a very light flexible sole. Groundies makes such nice shoes, so it’s been great to see more options in their Barefoot+ width.

Don’t need extra wide? The Nova also comes in Barefoot which has an average width (and has more color options). I can fit into both Barefoot and Barefoot+, but the Barefoot is usually borderline too narrow for me when they are brand new (though once broken in I feel good in them).

Nackt

Nackt is a new UK brand with one model out currently. They are on the slimmer side, so feel a little narrow for me. But the style is so cute and so on trend with that low profile Euro silhouette that I had to include them. I am excited to see where Nackt goes in the future!

The Manon model fits true to size and has a very thin sole. I found the leather on the stiffer side and needed some breaking in. I am optimistic that they’ll fit my width better once they become softer too. Let me know if you try this brand too!

A collage of 4 different brands of wide toe box barefoot chelsea boots that are both stylish and functional
The most comfortable barefoot chelsea boots are the ones that let your toes be free.

I love the Chelsea boot look, but I’m tired of cute shoes that are uncomfortable. That’s why I wear barefoot Chelsea boots instead! They don’t squish my toes or aggravate my back, like most stylish shoes do. Want to wear Chelsea boots without hurting your feet? You’re in the right place.

Find here my all-time favorite wide toe box Chelsea boots, including barefoot, cushioned, extra wide, and budget options.

Why I Wear Barefoot Chelsea Boots

A line of 3 light brown barefoot chelsea boots being worn by 3 women in white and cream colored dresses. All 3 boots feature a wide toe box. Left to right are Be Lenka Entice, Lang S Luna, and Rosa by Anya

My feet are important to me, and I am done stuffing them into shoes that don’t respect their natural shape. I wear barefoot Chelsea boots because:

  1. They have a wide anatomical toe box that doesn’t squish my toes
  2. They are flat (zero drop) and don’t push my weight forward
  3. They style the same as regular Chelsea boots!
  4. And you can choose more cushioned options or add insoles if you don’t want a thin sole!
Annotated Image of a person wearing 2 different shoes. On the right is a traditional pointy toe dressy chelsea boot with a heel. On the left is a wide toe box chelsea boot designed by Anya with a zero drop sole. The text at the top reads For Happy Toes Wear This Not That

Most fashion footwear, like the Chelsea boots on me above right and below right, have a pointy narrow shape and heel that can really hurt! Unlike shoes that claim to be good for wide feet but still come to a point at the end, barefoot boots actually give you the space and the flexibility where you need it.

A side by side comparison of a person wearing two different chelsea boots - one is zero drop and flat with no heel, the other has a heel that pushes the person forward

The Best Barefoot Chelsea Boots

These are my all time top picks for the best barefoot Chelsea boots!

But first – Pro tip: Chelsea boots don’t have laces, which means they can be more slide-y and floppy than other shoes. I frequently make use of a few easy fit hacks to ensure I get a perfect fit. Ok NOW let’s talk about my personal favorite barefoot Chelsea boots that have space for your toes to wiggle AND are stylish and trendy.

Xero Shoes

Leather | Microfiber Lining | Sizes US W5 – M15

Xero has two barefoot Chelsea boots – the rugged Ridgeway, which comes in men’s and women’s sizing and the Tari II. The Ridgeway has been very popular as an all-purpose functional Chelsea, that also looks trendy. I personally found them too stiff in the back heel area for my liking, but I am quite sensitive there – a lot of people in my community are loving them.

The other Xero Chelsea boot is the women’s Tari II – which I co-designed with them! I wanted to see a Chelsea with a touch more sophistication, and that something extra that makes you excited to put them. While not as rugged as the Ridgeway, the outsole is still meant to be functional throughout the season with some grip. And they have a wider toe box and more feminine fit than the original Tari Chelsea. Read more about them here!

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size for most people, but the Ridgeway ran small for Justin (he wears a 13 but needed 14 in Ridgeway Chelsea). I have a size 6.5 in the Tari II.
  • Medium to wide width – Men’s models are wider than women’s
  • Medium to high volume with removable insole

Vivobarefoot Sensus Chelsea

Leather Upper | Leather Lining | Sizes EU 35-49

Use code ANYASREVIEWS15 for 15% off

If you have low volume feet and narrow heels, this is the best barefoot Chelsea boot for you. I am almost always swimming in pull-on barefoot shoes, but the Vivobarefoot Sensus Chelsea I can wear with no modifications. They come with a removable thermal insole that some people will want to take out (if you’re not quite as low volume as I), and the toe box width is solid! They are not extra wide, but wider fitting than other Vivobarefoot shoes I’ve tried.

They have a really sleek, outfit-completing silhouette that I love. Stylish, and still practical with an outsole that has some grip to it.

A full body view of a woman in jeans, a white shirt, and a denim shirt. She has accessorized with a black hat, black leather belt, and a pair of black leather Vivobarefoot Sensus chelsea boots. She is standing with her hands on her hips look off to the right.

Sizing & Fit:

  • I find them true to size, but they do run shorter than other Vivo shoes. So some people will want to size up or plan to remove the insole.
  • Medium wide in the toe box
  • Low volume fit with insole, medium low volume without insole

Lila by Anya

Leather Upper | Leather Lining | Sizes EU 34-45

When it comes to Chelsea boot styling, the Lila has been a go-to for years. I wanted something that looked more like a classic Chelsea boot than other barefoot options, so I went out and designed one! The leather paneling over the elastic makes for a more sophisticated look, so these dress up really well too. I reach for them and the Rosa boot (similar but with side zipper) all fall and winter when I really want to look good!

Lila Chelsea boots have a quality leather upper, leather lining, and leather insole – all chrome free and vegetable tanned without the use of harsh chemicals. It takes significantly longer and is more expensive to tan leather in this way, but it’s safer for skin and is softer/more breathable than chrome tanned leather.

The outsole has a rubber bottom for a bit of grip, but they are not intended for rugged use. And it is a bit thicker and stiffer sole (because it’s entirely leather) than some barefoot Chelsea boots, so if you want a real flexible feel you’ll probably like the others here better!

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size, but slightly short for some. I wear my usual size still.
  • Medium wide – suitable for average and wide feet, but not best for extra wide feet.
  • High volume above the arch, so I added tongue pads to mine to get a secure fit (just be aware that tongue pads are semi permanent and don’t come off easily).

Lang.S Luna

Leather | Leather Lining | Sizes EU 36-42*

*Sizes up to EU 44 are available directly from Lang S in the EU

Use code ANYALANG for 10% off directly from Lang S

These were an unexpected favorite from Lang.S (formerly Tikki), which has recently started making adult shoes. They have that ample toe box room both in width and in height – that means no toe pinching from any direction. They are lined with a soft chrome-free natural leather, and are so soft and lightweight. I also like the sole, which has a traditional welt and feels more classic.

A woman sitting on a storefront steps in jeans and a dark green sweater. She also has a taupe hat and caramel leather Lang S luna barefoot chelsea boots.

Sizing & Fit:

  • All around roomy, but I still wear my normal size
  • Wide to extra wide fit
  • High volume – I need an extra insole and thick socks

Mukishoes Chelsea

Leather | Wool Lining | Sizes EU 36-45

Use code ANYAMUKI for 10% off directly from Mukishoes in the EU

I love that the Mukishoes Chelsea is a lower cut than most other wide toe box options, which gives you different styling options – easier to wear with jeans than taller Chelsea boots! They are also very light, flexible, and come with a real wool lining – not too thick, but nice for cold days.

They can get a little wrinkly/frumpy because they are so soft and unstructured, but it doesn’t stop me from styling them with lots of outfits. I reach for them often when I want a quick and easy look that’s still stylish. Mukishoes Chelsea is unisex.

Sizing & Fit:

  • Slightly small – I have a pair both in my regular size and a size up – both fit but the smaller size is a bit short.
  • Medium wide – best for average and some wide feet. The outsole is very soft and can flatten out a bit under wider feet as they break in, but don’t feel super wide when brand new.
  • Medium volume – the ankle opening is slim and lower cut, so some people say the front edge cuts into their ankle a bit. But it helps keep the shoe from being floppy even on different instep heights.

Lems Chelsea

Leather | Waterproof Options | Sizes US W6 – M15

If you’re outside the US, shop Lems EU here.

Hands down my favorite wide toe box Chelsea boot with cushion is the Lems Chelsea. They are really lightweight, have a very spacious toe box shape that can fit most foot shapes and widths, and they are soft and cushioned. Justin and I both have had great luck with ours – the quality, fit, and feel are all on point.

Top down view of a pair of legs in Lems Shoes Chelsea Tuff wide toe box boots with a warm collar lining

Also from Lems is the Chelsea Tuff. The brown color has a fluffy collar and lining that is surprisingly warm. The sole is quite thick (makes me feel so tall!) but flexes at the toe. Really well-made waterproof shoes with a grippy practical outsole. The black color has no fluff, but is still insulated.

Groundies

Leather | Velvet or no lining | Two Width Options | Sizes EU 36-43

Groundies has a few different Chelsea models, and all are well made and stylish. My favorite is the Camden, above left, which comes in Barefoot and Barefoot+ (extra wide). They are light, so flexible, and have a taller shaft for an edgier, slim-fit look. The Sienna, above right, has a trendy chunky look, and I like them but they’re not quite as flexible or as forgiving in the toe box.

The Camden has a slip-resistant outsole, which is handy in the fall and winter, and a thin velvety lining for a little bit of extra warmth. They feel great on foot! I love them in both widths myself since I don’t have an extra wide foot.

A top down view of a pair of feet resting on pavement wearing colorful winer socks and Groundies Barefoot+ wide toe box black nubuck chelsea boots

The Barefoot+ width is extra wide friendly and higher volume – they’re one of the best wide options if you have trouble fitting into most barefoot shoes.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Medium width in Barefoot) and extra wide in Barefoot+
  • Medium volume in Barefoot, medium-high volume in Barefoot +

Zaqq Equity

Leather | Leather lining | Sizes EU 36-46*

*Sizes up to EU 50 are available directly from Zaqq in the EU.

For me a sleek, glossy all-black Chelsea boot is a fall/winter wardrobe essential. They do double as an everyday shoe and a dress shoe, because they’re understated and match every outfit – the cold weather version of the Little Black Flat. The Zaqq Equity is my top pick in this category.

A woman standing on a bridge wearing denim, a black shirt and Zaqq Barefoot Equity chelsea boots in black leather

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Medium width – fit my slightly wider feet, but wouldn’t work for extra wide feet.
  • Higher volume – I add an extra insole and a tongue pad for an optimal fit

Be Lenka Entice

Leather | Fleece lined | Sizes EU 36-43

The Be Lenka Entice is a little more rugged of a Chelsea boot style with a durable outsole. They have an extra wide, fan-shaped fit for those of you who really need all the toe space while still styling like other Chelsea boots.

They are heavier than the Groundies Camden and other barefoot Chelsea boots – some people love that extra durability and traction though. They certainly are good quality!

A line up of Be Lenka Entice barefoot extra wide toe box chelsea boots in 3 colors. Black on the left, dark brown in the middle worn by a woman in a long cream dress, and a light brown latte color on the right

Be Lenka also has the Mojo chelsea boot that we really like. It’s not quite as wide as as Entice, but is still plenty wide for me and features a comfortable knit ankle opening.

Sizing & Fit:

  • Runs small – I size up one
  • Extra wide
  • Medium volume – they do not have a removable insole, and people with high volume feet often find them tight over the top of the foot. They can loosen with wear though!

Freet Durham

Leather | Textile lining | Sizes EU 37-48

Use code AnyaFreet for 10% off

Another rugged Chelsea boot option that fits extra wide feet – the Durham is new for 2025. It is a solid boot, with a little thinner sole than the Lems and Xero boots featured here. They can function for everyday wear, light hiking, and a light work boot because the leather is thick and the outsole has some tread.

Sizing & Fit:

  • Mostly true to size, but if you have extra wide feet I’d suggest going up one size
  • Wide to extra wide fit
  • High volume – they come with a removable insole, and even with it in they are quite spacious on me.

Feelgrounds Chelsea

Vegan Leather | Velvety Lining | Sizes EU 35-49

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off your first order.

Feelgrounds Chelsea boots have that chunky style that is a bit more urban but still sleek. The functional outsole is nice for winter weather, and they have an all around good fit. Truthfully, I don’t often like to wear faux leather, but I still reach for these when I want a sleek look but a bit more outsole.

A woman standing on her front porch wearing dark cropped wide leg denim, a cozy sweater, and Feelgrounds Chelsea barefoot vegan boots with a wide toe box.

Sizing & Fit:

  • Runs small for me – I sized up one
  • Wide fit – not quite extra wide, but wider than your standard barefoot shoe
  • Medium volume – I am able to wear mine comfortable with a pair of socks and don’t need to add an extra insole.

Best Budget Chelsea Boot

For when you want the comfort of a wide toe box barefoot Chelsea boot, but can’t swing the price.

Saguaro Urban

Faux Leather | 4mm Outsole | Sizes EU 36-42

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 15% off.

These faux leather Chelsea boots from Saguaro have a classy look and a nice little perforation detail around the edge. They’re really comfortable straight away, without any hard edges or rough bits. I don’t expect the faux leather to be as durable as real leather, but it does make the price more affordable.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Wide to extra wide toe box
  • Medium volume, but can work for high volume feet with the insole removed.

More Barefoot Chelsea Boots

Softstar Primal Chelsea (US) – Unisex sizes 5U – 14U in regular or wide. These have the widest, most square foot shape of all the barefoot boots! They are low volume over the toes, which can be uncomfortable during the break-in time. Once you know you want to keep them, I suggest stuffing the toe box with socks or paper towels and letting that area stretch out.

Barefoot combat boots have a natural foot shape, but still look cool.

The classic lace-up combat boot is a wardrobe essential. But too many have a narrow, pointy toe box! If comfort is what you are after, then you probably want a wide toe box alternative.

Here are my top recommended wide toe box and barefoot combat boots that have all the grungy style and none of the foot deforming features.

Why I Don’t Wear Doc Martens Anymore

A top down close up of a person's feet wearing black lace up combat boots. On the left is a Shapen Barefoot wide toe box Maverick boot with the text "Wear This" and on the right is a Doc Marten with the text "Not That" because it has a narrow tapered toe box

Doc Martens look cool but they are heavy, clunky, and have a narrow tapered toe box. I much prefer a shoe that looks great, but has a natural fit and feel with plenty of space for your toes. That’s where barefoot combat boots come in. They’re a perfect marriage of fashion and function!

Feeling comfortable all the time while not looking schleppy is a kind of secret superpower. That’s why I have such a deep love of wide toe box barefoot boots! I can live life more fully when I feel good and can actually move freely.

Two women standing next to each other in a graffitied alleyway wearing denim mini dresses. On the right, she is wearing maroon red patent leather lace up Maverick boots by Shapen Barefoot, and on the left, a matching pair in black patent leather with fishnet tights.

But it’s not just for today – tending to the health of my feet now can help keep me mobile and strong for decades to come. And if you want the toe space but not the thin sole, I’ve included cushioned options here too. You can also use insoles in the others!

Now let’s check out some barefoot combat boot alternatives that meet all the comfort criteria, but don’t compromise on style.

If you are looking for true combat boots for the military, head here instead.

My Favorite Barefoot Combat Boots

Peerko Barefoot

Leather & Vegan Options | Lined or Unlined | Sizes EU 37 – 45
No Removable Insole | Side Zip (depending on model)

Many of our Peerko lace-up boots are already in-stock for 2025, but others (like the Go) are still on the way.

You can also order these boots directly from Peerko in the EU and use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off (but note that they do not accept returns outside the EU)!

For me the Peerko Barefoot boots are hands down the best looking barefoot combat boot style! My personal favorites are the Go (short cut) and Empire (long cut) and both have a side zip for easy on and off. Every detail is just spot on – it’s not hard to see why they’ve been bestsellers at Anya’s Shop the last few years.

They also look great even after breaking in and don’t scuff easily. All while having a wide foot-friendly shape that fits a broad range of foot types!

Sizing & Fit

  • True to size (but wool-lined Frost fits snugger)
  • Wide toe box, suitable for most foot types
  • Medium volume fit

These do not come with an insole but you can add an extra wool insole to your order. It’s great for some extra warmth and comfort, or to fill in extra space.

If you like the tall Empire and have wide calves, you might need something like a Boot Band.

Lang.S Kombat

Leather | Leather Lining | Sizes EU 36-45
No Removable Insole | Side Zip

Use code ANYALANG to get 10% off directly from Lang.S, or now in stock at Anya’s Shop!

Lang.S (formerly Tikki Shoes) recently released a new lace up boot and it’s the only wide toe box option with a classic chunky profile. They have a thicker stack height than the others listed here, but are still uber flexible! This is great if you want a little more distance between you and the ground during the cold months, or just like a little cushion. The Kombat really fits into all combat boot categories – Extra-Wide Friendly & Cushioned – but I consider them an over-all best too!

Full body view of a woman with wavy brown hair standing on a downtown sidewalk wearing a floral jumpsuit, black sweater, and black bag. She is looking off into the distance with a slight smile on her face. The outfit is finished with Lang S Kombat black leather lace-up barefoot boots.

Another thing I love about them is that the the toe box is really roomy, including above the toes. Overall, I’ve been super impressed with these! The leather upper and lining is soft and good quality and there is a side zip for easy on and off.

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs slightly large
  • Wide to extra wide toe box
  • Medium to high volume fit

These boots are generally roomy. I tried a 37 and 38 and the 38 is rather large for me, though I could make them work with thick socks.

Mukishoes Igneous

Leather | Wool Lined | Sizes EU 36-44
No Removable Insole | Side Zip

Also available directly from Mukishoes in the EU where you can use code ANYAMUKI for 10% off any Mukishoes purchase (except sale items).

Mukishoes is one of my all time favorite brands because their shoes are soooo flexible, gorgeous, AND they have extremely high ethical standards. The Igneous is a sleek leather boot lined with a felted wool lining. The zipper on the side makes these easy on and off, and they are superbly flexible.

Sizing & Fit

  • Mostly true to size but slightly small
  • Average to wide width
  • Medium to high volume

Mukishoes Igneous boots are very soft and forgiving, but I sized up to a 38 for a bit of extra toe room and so I could fit a wool insole (cuz it’s winter yo). A 37 would have been just a bit tight for me.

You can read my full review of the Mukishoes brand here.

Xero Breckenridge

Leather | Leather Lining | Sizes US Women’s 5-12
Removable Insole | No Side Zip

The Xero Breckenridge has a very classic silhouette and can really be styled any which way – whether you want to dress them up, down, or with an edgy grungy look. They can even be worn functionally as outdoor/light hiking shoes. No side zip.

I find them to be one of the best fitting Xero models I’ve tried, and I like both the smooth black and the brown nubuck equally well. The outsole is on the stiff side and they took some breaking in to be as flexible as I like.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Medium to wide fit
  • Medium volume

Vivobarefoot Gobi Boot

Leather | Sizes US 5W – 15M
Removable Insole | No Side Zip

Use code ANYASREVIEWS15 for 15% off

The Vivobarefoot Gobi boot is a seasonal model that comes back every fall and winter. It comes in a leather lined and a fleece lined option depending on your warmth needs. Two things I like about Vivobarefoot boots – the have an oblique shape so you get lots of big toe room and they are very durable/high quality.

Even though the Gobi styles like a lifestyle boot they have a grippy outsole for some decent traction for outdoor use. The leather is so soft and supple, and they have held up like a dream. They have a modern urban aesthetic to them that feels fresh after so many lace-up boots that look the same.

If you’re wearing them in the cold, be warned that the insole that comes with it is not warm in my opinion. Check out this post for warm insoles options you can use instead.

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs slightly long, but I don’t size down
  • Average width (Men’s are wider than Women’s)
  • Medium to low volume

If you have wide feet I recommend sizing up or choosing the men’s version (same shoe just wider).

Groundies

Leather | Sizes EU 36-47
No Removable Insole | Side Zip (depending on model)

Groundies is always keeping it fresh with trendy styles made barefoot, and select models come in two widths. The Salzburg is available in both the EU and US stores – it’s a cute, soft boot with some unique details like oversized eyelets and a chunky lace.

I am not sure what else will be available in the US store for the 2025 season, but the quality from Groundies is consistently good. You can reliably look to them for good barefoot combat boots.

Sizing & Fit

  • True to size
  • Average width in Barefoot, extra wide in Barefoot+
  • Medium volume

I wear my usual size 37 in most Groundies shoes, but sometimes size up to a 38 for sock room. They have a Mountain shape to them and are medium width; a little bit wider than Vivobarefoot.

Some Groundies models come in an extra wide width, like the Salzburg model here. You can learn more about their Barefoot+ fit here.

Best for Extra Wide Feet

These are the barefoot combat boots that have the widest toe box, suitable for even extra wide feet.

Shapen Barefoot

Leather | Leather & Wool Lined | Sizes EU 36-47
No Removable Insole | Side Zip (depending on model)

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off directly from Shapen (returns are not accepted outside the EU). We’ll have the Maverick at Anya’s Shop in the US shortly!

The Shapen Maverick is spot on for the Doc Martens look! They have a side zip, roomy toe box, and sleek fit. They are very light and flexible – in fact I prefer them with an extra insole – but overall the styling is on point.

Urbaneer is a classic (less edgy) silhouette with a wool lining, no side zip, and a more rugged outsole for a wintry climate.

I love both of them – they’re the perfect blend of comfort with quality and style. If you have extra wide feet and/or want all the toe space this is one of the best options.

Sizing & Fit

  • Maverick runs slightly large – I do not size down but I have room for thick socks and insoles. Urbaneer is more true to size because of the wool lining.
  • Wide to extra wide toe box
  • Medium to high volume

Shapen boots fit on the larger roomier side in general.nI go in greater detail on the fit & sizing of Shapen barefoot boots in this review.

Origo Adventurer

Leather | Unlined | Sizes US Women’s 6 – Men’s 13
Removable Insole | No Side Zip

The Origo Adventurer is an ultra light and comfy boot with ample toe space and a heritage feel. They are super comfortable, I am a big fan! The leather has a really nice natural quality to it that will get better with him. And of the options here, they are one of the lightest and most flexible.

Sizing & Fit

  • True to size
  • Extra wide toe box, but fitted through the midfoot and heel
  • Medium volume – easily cinches over my low volume feet

I think the fit on the Origo Adventurer is really great. You get plenty of toe space, but the shoe is not floppy or slippy. It’s a good balance of roomy and fitted!

Be Lenka Atlas

Leather | Fleece Lining | Sizes EU 35-47
Removable Insole | Side Zip

Use code ANYASREVIEWS to get 5% off Be Lenka directly.

Be Lenka Barefoot makes several stylish lace-up boots in a range of colors, all of which are ultra comfortable and high quality. If you like the combat boot style but have extra wide feet, this brand is going to be a better option for you than most.

My favorite as a combat boot replacement is the Atlas. They have a side zip for easy on and off and are lined with a thin fleece. Be Lenka also has the Winter 3.o lace up boot (no side zip), which is taller cut and has a thick wool lining. We carry the Winter at Anya’s Shop.

A close up side view of a pair of black combat leather lace up winter boots from Be Lenka being worn by a person sitting on a stone wall. A plaid jacket is just visible at the top of the frame, and wide leg denim are resting above the boots with a pair of chunky knit socks peeking out over the boots.

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs small – I size up one in both Atlas and Winter.
  • Wide to extra wide fit
  • Medium volume

Be Lenka boots generally run on the small side and I size up pretty consistently.

But note that Be Lenka models on the ErgoGrip sole are not as wide as the Atlas, so it’s a good idea to check the product listing and size charts to understand what you’re ordering.

Ahinsa Jaya

Vegan | Waterproof | Fleece Lining | Sizes EU 37-46
Removable Insole | Side Zip

You can use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off.

The Ahinsa Jaya is a vegan barefoot combat boot with an extra wide toe box. This option is super flexible, fits fits people who need a lot of toe space (check that non-sloping toe box), and can accommodate high volume feet. It is also super light, soft, and has a water resistant finish. I also love the side zipper for easy use!

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs a little small – I size up to a 38
  • Extra wide toe box, but slim through the midfoot.
  • Medium volume, but can easily cinch or loosen to most foot types

See below the the Ahinsa Jaya on two different foot types. On the left (below) is my low volume foot with a wide toe spread. On the right, is Samantha (our researcher here at Anya’s Reviews) with an EXTRA wide and high volume foot. Notice that the laces are cinched much tighter over my low volume foot, but Ahinsa fits both our foot types well.

Best Cushioned Options

Here are some combat boots that have the wide toe box and lightweight natural feel but a thicker sole for a bit more cushion.

Lems Boulder Boot

Leather & Vegan Options | Waterproof Option | Sizes US 5W – 15M
Removable Insole | No Side Zip

If you’re outside the US, shop Lems EU here.

The Lems Boulder Boot is super popular in natural footwear circles because it has a timeless look to it, and a wide toe box. They have a thicker sole than any other shoe I review here, but it’s still zero drop and a little bit flexible (not as flexible as the others). They are definitely more structured than most of the options here and take a bit of breaking in, but are pretty dang comfy once softened up.

One thing I love about Lems is that they have a lot of vertical toe space, so you really get toe freedom. I particularly like my Boulder Boot Grips and wear them a lot for cold weather hiking or walking in the rain.

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs small – I usually size up to an 8 in Lems.
  • Wide to extra wide fit
  • High volume

Feelgrounds Patrol

Vegan | Waterproof | Fleece Lined Option | Sizes EU 35-49
Removable Insole | No Side Zip

Use code ANYA5 for 5% off your first order

Feelgrounds Patrol boots are vegan, waterproof, fleece lined (in their Winter version), and slip resistant. They look super stylish with a chunky appearance while being practical. Many people even use these as a hiking boot!

I personally found the material a bit stiff for my liking, but for people who want a more traditional feel that’s not as thin and flexible as other barefoot shoes this is a good option.

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs slightly small
  • Wide to extra wide fit (will work for many foot types, but you may need to size up to get enough width).
  • High volume

Best Budget Options

Saguaro Ambition

Microfiber | Faux Fur Lining | Sizes EU 36-48
Removable Insole | Side Zip

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 15% off

The Ambition II from Saguaro is a great affordable option that still retains all the barefoot qualities we want in a boot. It has a nice wide toe box, and a flexible 4mm zero drop outsole. The laces are low quality and a little difficult to adjust, but once you have them set there’s a handy side zipper for easy on/off.

The lining is medium thick faux fur that’s soft but will make your feet sweaty, so I would plan on sizing up to wear socks.

Sizing & Fit

  • Runs a little small – we usually size up
  • Wide fit – will work for some extra wide feet.
  • Medium volume

A collage of stylish foot-shaped barefoot shoes for summer.

If you look at the shoes most people are wearing, honestly it’s no wonder our feet hurt! Here is my take on summer fashion – with shoes that won’t pinch your toes or cramp your style. Because here at Anya’s Reviews we celebrate the natural shape of the foot! And when you love your feet, they tend to love you back.

Here is my hand-selected summer capsule wardrobe – but make it barefoot shoes. These will pretty much cover all your lifestyle needs for the season!

Chic Flats

Custom Jenon Villet

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the cutom Villet Jenon Leather mary jane flat next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

These are brand new, specially made in a European workshop for Anya’s Shop, and they have been such a hit with our team. I am so excited to share them with you!

The Villet flats are extra special because they have plenty of toe space in all directions – both in height and in width. So you get no toe pinching and no rubbing, but the shoe still holds its shape! This makes for an overall elegant, upscale vibe.

As styled by Naomi, our adorbs new creative strategist for Anya’s Shop

I wear a size 37 in these flats. The straps fit securely on my low volume feet, but can be adjusted for higher volume feet. There also is a glued insole that could be pulled out for very high volume feet (Samantha does this).

Be Lenka Rosaluna

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Be Lenka Rosaluna two toned flat next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

I love a black toe cap flat! The Rosaluna is giving Coco Chanel vibes, but foot-shaped. They feel like a slipper, but are dressy enough for work and nights out.

A woman wearing dress pants and the Be Lenka Rosaluna barefoot flats beige with a black toe cap

I wear a size 37 in the Rosaluna too. They come with a removable insole, but even with it they are a little loose on my narrow heels.

Everyday Staple Sandals

Be Lenka Summer

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Be Lenka Summer brown leather sandal next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

The Be Lenka Summer has been one of our bestselling sandals year over year, since Anya’s Shop started in 2020. They’ve got that minimalist look for easy styling that can go dressy and casual. They have adjustable velcro front straps for a customized fit, and an ankle buckle for security.

The front straps can also be trimmed at the stitching. I wear a size 36 in the Be Lenka Summer, and they fit my length really well. I am usually a 36 and sometimes a 37 in sandals, so the Summer is true to size.

Groundies Kos

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Groundies Kos black chunky barefoot sandal next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

The Groundies Kos gives chunky sandal vibes. The back strap has a 3 buckle adjustment, but overall doesn’t have as much adjustability as the Be Lenka Summer. But I like the clean lines and thick straps.

A woman sitting on the wood floor wearing denim and Groundies Kos brown leather barefoot sandals

I wear a size 36 in these too, and the length is just right. They are a little loose over my ankles, but I have very low arches.

Classic Loafers – Shapen Sheen

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Shapen Sheen patent leather loafer next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

The Shapen Sheen loafer is patent leather that makes a statement. They have a wide fit that works for even extra wide feet, and they just look sleek!

The patent leather is stiffer, so be prepared for a shoe that is not as crazy soft/flexible as you might be used to with barefoot shoes. But the toe space makes them plenty comfortable for me, and I like to have a snazzier shoe that holds its shape for elevated looks.

A woman wearing Shapen Sheen wide toe box patent leather barefoot loafers with a white top and black pants

I wear a size 37 and use an insole with mine. These fit Samantha’s extra wide, high volume feet too!

Colorful Sneaker – Shapen Re:Wind

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Shapen Rewind color block retro sneaker next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

These are the comfiest and cutest sneakers. I LOVE both the peach and the jade – they give a pop of color that is both fun and easy to style. They’re also so soft and have a very versatile fit.

A woman sitting on the wood floor wearing jeans, a white shirt, and Shapen ReWind Jade barefoot sneakers

They work well on my average/wide width low volume feet, AND on Samantha’s extra wide high volume feet. I prefer them with an extra Shapen insole, and recommend that to anyone with low arches and/or who wants more cushion. I wear size 37.

White Sneaker – Barebarics Zing

A top down view of two shoes. One is a barefoot shoe, the Barebarics white leather Zing sneaker next to a similar style shoe but with a pointy toe box. Text over the image is "Wear this" next to the foot shaped shoe and "not that next to the pointy shoe.

Our restock of this popular model is here and being unboxed! Fresh inventory will be available in just a few days!

The Barebarics Zing is special in barefoot shoes because it has a very durable, abrasion resistant outsole. So you can get lots of urban mileage in comfort in them.

I wear size 37 in the Barebarics Zing.

Still looking for summer footwear? Try these barefoot shoes – you’ll still look cutesy, but your feet will thank you.

But I specifically look for barefoot clogs. Here is your guide to the why behind barefoot clogs and which ones are my favorite.

A tow down view of a pair of feet wearing two different shoes. On the left is barefoot clog from Butterfly your world in taupe suede with the text "Why I wear this" and on the right foot is the Birkenstock Boston clog with the text "but not that" and at the bottom "anyasreviews.com"
I like to wear barefoot clogs instead of the Birkenstock Boston.

Clogs are all the rage right now. And while I really appreciate a wide, flat shoe – The Birkenstock Boston (and the like) are very stiff. I find flexible, minimalist soles to be much more comfortable and they support my long term foot health as well!

Here is your guide to the why behind barefoot clogs and which ones are my favorite.

Why I Don’t Wear Birkenstocks (Anymore)

Close up knee down view of a person wearing linen pants and Mukishoes Soca clogs sitting outside on a wooden folding chair with flower pots nearby.

Birkenstocks are a hot topic, and my take on them has both enlightened and enraged more than a few people. Here’s why I no longer wear Birkenstocks, including the popular Boston clog.

Birkenstocks are great as a pain relief shoe – in fact I am genuinely glad they have become so popular because they are much more natural than typical shoes. But they are SO rigid and supportive that they immobilize the foot – kind of like a cast. And I learned from experience that immobilizing your foot on a consistent basis leads to muscle atrophy.

A side by side of the same person wearing two different types of clogs. First if a barefoot clog that is very flexible and bends with the foot. Underneath it is the text "Feet bend!" On the right she is wearing a Birkenstock Boston clog that is very rigid and doesn't bend with her feet as she steps and underneath is the text "shoes should too!"
Barefoot clog (left), Birkenstock Boston (right)

Ideally we are all working toward feet that function well without so much support! Especially if you are not currently in pain or recovering from an injury, it doesn’t make sense to put a healthy foot into such a rigid shoe.

By contrast, a barefoot clog bends and moves with the foot, which helps keep the tissues supple and strong. Oh, and they have a back strap for better security!

A side by side collage of a woman holding two different shoes and trying to roll them up in a ball to test the flexibility. On the left is a Butterfly Your World handmade barefoot clog, on the right is the Birkenstock Boston Clog
Barefoot clog (left), Birkenstock Boston (right)

And that’s why I moved away from my Birkenstocks and now embrace minimalist shoes as a long term strategy for my foot health.

Barefoot Clogs to Wear Instead

But I love a fashion moment, so it tickles me that there are now on-trend barefoot clogs! Here are 5 options that capture the aesthetic (and give you plenty of toe space) but are light, comfortable, and freeing for your feet.

(and side note, you may want to use a spray protectant like this one on your clogs to keep the suede looking fresh.)

Butterfly Your World Clog

Leather | Multiple Widths! | Sizes US Women’s 5 – Men’s 11.5 | Ships from US

You can use code ANYA10 to get 10% off your Butterfly Your World purchase.

Butterfly Your World is a one-person operation, and during peak ordering times fulfillment can be long and sometimes ordering is paused altogether so Irina can ensure every customer is happy!

First up is the Clog from Butterfly Your World – a small shop located in Florida, USA. We love supporting handmade operations, where you know your order was made just for you with love. It does mean fulfillment time can take several weeks and that sales are final. But if you’re looking for a barefoot clog to replace the Birkenstock Boston, we think this is the best option!

Butterfly Your World clogs come in 3 widths (!) and you can customize the leather and sole color. The leather is soft and comfy, and the buckles allow for a customized fit – which is important in slip-on style shoes. Samantha has been wearing her pair for over a year- the suede has molded to her foot and the fit is excellent.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • 3 width options will work for average to extra wide feet!
  • Plateau/square shape
  • Medium to high volume
  • True to size

Samantha chose Wide and they fit her extra wide feet like a glove! That means the X-Wide option will be good for the broadest of feet. And Medium will be good for average to slim feet.

The buckle make it so the shoe can fit a medium and even lower volume foot on the tightest setting, and also a high volume foot when loosened.

We followed the size chart to order a US 7.5 Wide in the clogs for Samantha and a 7 Wide in the sandals, and they fit just as expected.

Mukishoes Soca

Leather | Size EU 36-48 | Ships from EU or US

This product will be restocked March 2026.

New this year is the Mukishoes Soca, available at Anya’s Shop in the US and in Europe direct from Mukishoes (if you shop there, use code ANYAMUKI 10% off).

The Soca only comes in one width – medium wide – so not as good for extra wide feet. BUT they are already made and will get to you much faster than Butterfly Your World. They also have a beautiful construction and the leather is so soft and nice on the skin. They are flexible, breathable, and so cute.

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size, but I sized down for a more secure fit on my narrow heels
  • Medium width – they fit my medium wide feet well, but likely wouldn’t work for an extra wide foot.
  • Medium volume, but adjustable straps work on different foot volumes

This type of shoe construction is usually tricky for me to get a good fit in because I have such slim heels. They are a little less secure than I would like, but with the two adjustable straps I get a good enough fit and they are comfortable. And did I mention they’re dang cute!

Barebound Ikaros

Leather or Vegan | Sizes EU 35-46 | Ships from EU

The Barebound Ikaros is new to the barefoot shoe scene, and I am pretty excited about them! They have a flexible sole, but with more cushion than the other options here. They also have a nice tall toe box so that your toes don’t get squished from above. And the finish and feel of them is really on point – I can wear them with sweats or a nicer outfit and feel pretty cool both ways.

Read my full review of the Barebound Ikaros here!

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • True to size – I sized down to a 36 because I have narrow, low volume heels (I usually do that with this style of shoe!)
  • Medium width – these are on the wider side of medium width, similar to Peerko shoes if you’re familiar.
  • Medium volume, but you can adjust by loosening the strap or adding an insole.

Birkenstock Lutry

Suede | Sizes EU 35-48 | Ships globally from your local Birkenstock domain

The Birkenstock Lutry is unique from the Birkenstock Boston because it has a removable insole that, once taken out, will turn this normally stiff and supportive shoe into a barefoot shoe! Because they were designed to be used with the insole, you likely will want to add your own insole. Otherwise the shoe might feel excessively roomy and unpleasant because the inside is unfinished.

But they have great style and Birkenstocks quality! Which really is excellent – take it from a California girl who wore Arizona Birks for about 20 years before switching to barefoot shoes 🙂

Look how flexible the Birkenstock Lutry is without the insole!

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • 2 width options
  • High volume
  • Sloped shape

Tomar Creation

Leather | Sizes EU 39-48 | Ships from EU

Tomar Creation’s Twist model is a barefoot clog with a soft, supple leather upper and flexible sole. They are on the higher volume option, so felt a little too roomy for Stacey (modeling above) who has medium-low volume feet. But they match the clog aesthetic while being significantly more flexible and dynamic.

The Twist is available in many different solid colors and can be customized with a matching strap and buckle detail (which is what we did). They also come standard with a little flower decal on the side, which you can request to be left off. The main thing to know is that these are handmade in the EU, so shipping can be a little longer depending on where you live. AND if you customize them then they are non-returnable.

A hand showing a Tomar Creation barefoot clog squished into a tight U shape to show the flexibility of the zero drop sole

Sizing & Fit Type:

  • Runs slightly big/roomy
  • Plateau shape
  • Wide straight fit
  • High volume

What if I need some cushion?

All of the flexible barefoot clogs we shared here have a thin sole. If you want to experience the foot freedom of barefoot clogs with a little more cushion, I recommend exploring some of the insole options below that you can add to any of the clogs I’ve shared:

When using insoles like these I recommend going with the largest available size and trimming them to fit your shoes.

And you also want to factor in the space that these insoles take up inside the shoe. If you have high volume feet, you may consider sizing up in your clogs so the insoles fit comfortably.

Fit hacks for clogs

Clogs can sometimes feel floppy because there are no lace adjustments. A good fit is really important to me, so I make use of the following hacks to make my clogs fit perfectly:

  • Tongue pad – this sticks inside the top of your shoe to fill in extra space and make them fit more securely
  • Moleskin – This can be used on the heel strap or anywhere there is a bit of extra space or rubbing
  • Any of the insoles linked above can also help if you have low volume feet

A few more options here

Besides the above barefoot clog options, here are a few more:

  • Saguaro Serene – Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 15% off. Good as an affordable option, but made of synthetics so won’t have the same longevity or quality feel of the others. I size up in my Saguaro shoes.
  • Ruby Barefoot – these are wide and quite high volume
  • Drifter Leather Solis
  • Bedrock Mountain Clogs – these have quite a bit of cushion! But they don’t look as dressy as the others I’ve mentioned
  • Xero Pagosa – a little more like a slipper
  • Wyde Nilo (backless slide) – Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off
  • Aylla Tinku (backless slide)

The most comfortable barefoot shoes that are still fancy enough for weddings!

I am done with the notion that beauty is pain. I’ve worn barefoot shoes to weddings, funerals, cocktail parties, the theater, and every single dressy event I’ve attended for the last 8 years. Not once did I look or feel out of place next to the other guests. In fact, my shoes were frequently the envy of others because I wasn’t stumbling around or hurting. I believe you too can be both comfortable and elegant, and that we can push the boundaries of what’s sexy beyond high heels.

Here you’ll find my personal top picks for dressy barefoot wedding shoes – for the bride, wedding party, and guests! Replace your high heels with these and thank me later.

Yes, Women’s Wedding Shoes Can be Comfortable!

What better way to enjoy a meaningful occasion than in shoes that let you move freely? I fully believe that confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear. So get out there on the dance floor and flaunt those healthy feet!

And if you’d like to have the foot shape but but with more cushion or support, you can play around with insoles to modify the options here to your needs.

Looking for fancy barefoot dress shoes for other members of the family or other dressy occasions? See my other articles here:

Grecian Sandals (Etsy) -This is my personal favorite for weddings. They are on the affordable side compared to other barefoot dress sandals, and are just so elegant. I’m linking to the Vibram sole collection (they’re more flexible) and my favorite strapping styles are the ones shown in the image here. The ones with straps that go straight across the toes are not as wide fitting. True to size.

Shapen Poppy – The Poppy is a truly dressy barefoot flat. Toe box detailing helps to disguise the width and an open design elongates the legs. They are some of the most fashionable women’s barefoot shoes out there! Read my Shapen review here for all the details about the Poppy and other styles from Shapen.

You can find the Poppy at Anya’s Shop in the US (our spring 2025 order is coming mid April) or directly from Shapen and use code ANYA5 for 5% off shoes and accessories. Just note that Shapen doesn’t accept returns outside the EU.

Close up top down view of Softstar Ballerine metallic handmade sustainable barefoot ballet flats. A pleated green dress is visible near the legs

Softstar Ballerines – The Ballerinas are a simple flat that can be customized in a bunch of colors to match your outfit. They have a regular and wide width option and have a bit more cushion than the other options here.

The biggest drawback (besides the cost) is that there is a canvas trim around the edge that doesn’t always perfectly match the leather color. Read my Softstar reviews here.

A collection of wide toe box barefoot loafers in neutral colors, prints, and stylish designs scattered around
The best wide toe box loafers that don’t hurt your feet and are still cute.

Loafers have long been one of my favorite styles of shoes. They’re fashionable, practical, and can be worn as a dress or casual shoe. But typically they are really pinchy in the toes.

For years loafers and I never got along because of my foot issues. Until I discovered barefoot shoes that is. Now I don’t need those pointy loafers anymore! I’m in a long term relationship with wide toe box shoes and hurty shoes and I are never ever ever getting back together. 😉

If you’re interested in getting the loafer style without the bunions, check out this list of completely flat and wide foot-shaped barefoot loafers.

Why Most Loafers are Hurting Your Feet

Two black loafers with metal hardware side by side on a person's foot - on the left if a barefoot wide toe box foot shaped loafer with the text "Wear this" above it, and on the right is a point narrow black loafer with the text "not that" above it

I have some strong opinions on wearing shoes that hurt my feet (read this post for more on that). But the two biggest beefs I have with the loafers you’re most likely to see are they have a pointy toe box and a heel.

  1. Pointy Toe Box: Most shoes no longer look like feet at all. The pointed tips on your shoes prevent your toes from spreading out which can lead to foot pain AND prevent your body from moving well (did you know we use our big toe to balance?)
  2. Heel: No, they’re not stilettos, but even that small heel on traditional loafers can throw your center of gravity forward and force your body to compensate in awkward ways. Especially if you are susceptible back pain, you might want to consider the heels on your shoes.

And the wild thing is, you find these painful features even on brands considered to be”comfort” brands. So I now look for foot-shaped shoes, that actually mirror my anatomy.

Alright, let’s dig into my favorite fashionable but comfortable barefoot loafers! This is a mix of women’s, unisex and men’s options. The women’s options are the front of the list!

My Favorite Barefoot Loafers

By Anya Loafers

Leather | Sizes EU 34-45 | Ships from US

I wanted a simple loafer that was sophisticated and elegant, without unnecessary doodads and that came in a variety of neutrals. So I just developed my own! 😀 The Dalia and Yasemin are fully leather shoes (upper, lining, insole, outsole) with a thin layer of rubber on the bottom.

While I love both, I have a favorite. The Dalia has just a few extra details that make them one of my personal favorite dress shoes. For one, I think the style is perfection and will always look chic no matter how trends change over time. And second, they come up a little higher on the foot and fit more securely on thinner feet than the Yasemin.

They do take a little bit of break in time to form to your foot, but they breathe well, are repairable, and really just get better with age. Both are best suited for average to wide feet, not ideal for narrow or extra wide. If you have low volume feet you might consider adding a tongue pad.

Be Lenka Loafers

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU or US

When shopping Be Lenka directly, you can use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off.

My personal favorite Be Lenka loafers are the Viva (above left) with a slimmer fit, and the Buena (above right) with a penny loafer strap and a wider fit. Both come with a removable insole, which makes them work well for both lower volume and higher volume feet. I love both!

The Viva loafers do have a sharper edge, particularly in the black, and they gave me some pretty good blisters. So I recommend using moleskin if you have sensitive skin. But they are so pretty that it’s well worth it in my opinion!

My favorite Be Lenka men’s loafer is the Portsider (EU 40-47, also available in the US at Anya’s Shop). It strike a good balance between casual and dressy (business casual I’d say) that feels breezy but put together. They run a little bigger than we are used to from Be Lenka, and Justin actually sized down in them.

Shapen Loafers

Leather | Sizes EU 35-44 | Ships from EU or US

When shopping in the EU you can use code ANYA5 for 5% off. But Shapen doesn’t accept returns outside the EU, so you may want to try Anya’s Shop in the US.

Shapen has two loafer styles – one is the Sheen (above left) that has an extra wide fit and a shiny patent leather. They feel stiffer because of the patent leather, but the toe space is lovely. They fit me best with an extra insole.

A woman in a white shirt with black stripes sitting on a chair. her ankles are crossed and she has Sapen Sheen patent leather barefoot loafers on her feet. She is smiling at the camera with her hands resting on her legs.

The other is Versa, which comes in two widths. Regular is average width, Wide is extra wide fitting. I am wearing Regular and Samantha wears Wide. The fun thing about these is that the metal bit is interchangeable, so you can order whatever style you like best!

Two women in business clothes sitting on a leather couch. They both are wearing Shapen Versa barefoot wide toe box loafers.

The leather on the Versa is softer than the Sheen, but I did find that the ankle opening is on the wide side and my feet almost want to slip out.

Peerko Trim

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU

When shopping in the EU, you can use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off – just note that they don’t accept returns outside the EU. Which is why we also carry them in the US!

The Peerko Trim is a loafer for people who want toe space AND pizazz. They are light, flexible, and low profile but with some sparkle and fun patterns. I think they still can be used as a professional shoe, depending on your outfit. But they also work well as a casual everyday shoe.

2 women's feet in Peerko Trim loafers resting on a couch facing eachother. They are each showing Trim barefoot laofers in tan paisley and black plaid

They have an average to wide fit (probably not suitable for extra wide feet) and stay on my narrow heels pretty well. The volume is medium to low, so also not best for a high volume foot.

Zeazoo Cheetah

Leather | Sizes EU 35-42 | Ships from EU

Use code ANYASREVIEWS to get 10% off.

The Zeazoo Cheetah driving loafer comes in a bunch of different colors and detail options. They have that rubber heel piece on the back so that they don’t scuff when driving.

They can be dressed up for more formal outfits or casually with denim. They are really comfortable for being a dressy shoe!

They are medium wide, but the moccasin top stitching makes them adaptable to a lot of different foot shapes. Zeazoo also does custom sizes and color combos by request.

Zaqq Qerp

Leather | Sizes UK 4.5-12.5/EU 37-48 | Ships from Germany

Zaqq Qerp loafers are so soft and feel great on my feet. They run true to size and have a medium width toe box – so not suitable for extra wide feet. But I like the classic styling of them with the metallic braided details.

Zaqq also has this gold Qosmo loafer that is quite pretty! Check out my Zaqq Review for more details about this brand.

Ruby Workshop

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Handmade in Turkey

Use code ANYASREVIEWS35 for 15% off

Ruby Workshop is an Etsy shop that makes loafers and flats in lots of colors. They are simple leather shoes in what I would call middle quality leather, but feel light and soft. They are a little high volume for me and fit a wide toe box. You can see in the pictures above that they are also wide through the heel, so will overall be best for thick, high volume feet.

They are more affordable than a lot of other barefoot shoes, which is a plus, and can be dressed up or down.

Raum Goods

A close up of a pair of feet leaning against a tree trunk wearing Raum goods barefoot slip-on loafers in natural leather

Leather | Sizes US Women’s 6 – Men’s 14 | Ships from USA

Raum Goods slip ons are made of buttery soft leather and have a nice wide shape to them. They come in several lovely neutral colors year round, and can be dressed up or down. They fit high volume and loose around the heel, so be ware if you are low volume and narrow in the back.

Be aware that the soles are fully leather and feel stiff and a little slippery at first. Once they get scuffed up they no longer are slippery, and the soles break in after a few wears. They are high quality shoes and feel great on. You can also have them repaired at a local cobbler if needed. Oh, and they have a grounding copper plug in the bottom!

I have a pair of their limited edition Mudcloth loafers and they are so cool! They run a little bit small, I am usually a 6.5 in flats/loafers and sized up to a 7.

Groundz Slip-Ons

A top down view of a pair of feet standing on concrete wearing Groundx barefoot slip on shoes in clay suede

Leather | Sizes EU 36-47 | Ships from US

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off

Groundz slip-ons are similar to Raum Goods with a full leather sole and grounding plug, but Groundz have an extra wide forefoot shape to them and the leather is bit thicker. They fit high volume, so I went with the style shown above that fits more securely than the ones with cut outs on the sides.

In this brand I sized down to a 6 – they were a bit short but broke in!

Sullivent

Leather | Sizes EU 39-48 | Ships from US

Sullivent dress loafers are high end Spanish-made shoes that will last you for years. They feature some excellent toe space, and a faux heel design that blends right in with formal businesswear.

All these shoes are made-to-order, so keep that in mind before ordering, but they’re worth the wait!

Read our full Sullivent review here for all the details on sizing, fit, and more!

Drifter Leather Slip On

Leather | Sizes EU 34-49 | Custom Options | Handmade in Greece

The Drifter Leather slip on sneakers are simple, but able to be made according to your foot tracing and measurements! You can also customize your leather choice for a shoe that’s truly made for you. It’s a process, but I love all my Drifter Leather shoes.

Here is a selection of my favorites, some available now and some coming soon.

A collage of 6 different spring Barefoot shoe sneak peeks in a variety of styles from clogs to espadrilles. All with a wide toe box anatomical fit.

If you’re too good for pinched toes, but have an once of style – this is a must read! Find all the new spring 2025 intel in one place. Well, two places. Because this is part 1 for the season!

Let’s dive into some fresh new looks for the style-inclined barefoot shoe wearer. (And keep an eye out for the next installment, because there is more to look forward to!)

Are you wishing you could try all the spring shoes on at once? Come to the Barefoot Shoe Expo. Many of these models will be there.

Crupon Sandals

Use code ANYA for 10% off.

Available starting today are 3 new styles of Crupon sandals, and some pretty new colors. And this weekend you can get free shipping, in addition to 10% off with my code! I am particularly excited about the Abbie (fisherman style, above left) – chunky sandals are really in right now.

Also new are two strappy sandals, Fida and Norma, each with an extra wide option (in black). The Norma (above right) is an updated version of the Hippie sandal, which I have worn and loved for the last couple years. So I am excited to see this added to the main inventory. Quality strappy sandals never go out of style.

I have some samples coming to me, so I will be sharing specific fit feedback on the new models soon! In the meantime, check out my previous reviews on Crupon to learn more about the fit and feel.

Wildling Spring

Use code AWN_ANYA_S for a one-time free shipping offer.

Wildling is bringing the color this spring! The Borba has an orange/pink butterfly print that is so cheery and fun, I couldn’t resist. And it’s ultra light and soft. I have a size 37 and they are roomy and wide fitting, but not extra wide.

And we are also loving the Lago model. In small kid’s sizes it has a fun blue outsole and velcro straps.

But the biggest news from Wildling this spring is their rain boot. Ranidae (rainy day, get it?) is I think the highest quality rain boot we’ve seen in barefoot shoes to date. The toe box is also quite generous without being excessively floppy. They do run on the big side over all – I tried both a 38 and a 37, because I wear a size 38 in a number of Wildling shoes. But in these the 37 is plenty big, and I can even fit in the new thick wool socks also launching tomorrow.

For those of you wondering if they’re extra wide friendly – Samantha tried them on and they fit her too! So great news all around. You can check out the other wide toe box rain boots on the market here.

Rain boot pro tip: Because rubber boots have to be wide enough to get your foot inside, heel slippage is common. I rectify this with stirrup socks!

Vega Espadrilles

Vega Barefoot has been around for a few seasons, and they tend to have really fun and pretty styles. They operate on a preorder basis, which isn’t my favorite (I wish I could try them on before I shared about them!), but I have been wanting an espadrille shoe just like the ones they are offering! I ordered a size 37 and will share more info when I get them, in case there are still any in stock.

Based on my experience with past models, the fit on their Barefoot width is pretty standard and will be best for average width fit. If you are looking for extra wide, they do have some nice models that come in a Barefoot Plus width (not the espadrilles though)!

The quality on these is also medium – they are a cheaper option compared to other high end barefoot dress shoes. It’s a pretty good deal for EU folks! But the shipping cost of 45 Euros to the US kind of canceled out the cheaper base price for me. Again, the style is unique and so pretty, so I still had to have them!

Shapen Playa

Available now is another espadrille style from Shapen – the Playa. This will come in beige and navy, in two widths! Shown above is Regular width, so Wide will be best for those with extra wide feet.

They are the understated but elegant, casual yet sophisticated style I love to elevate my everyday outfits. A more feminine slip-on.

You can use code ANYA5 for 5% off directly from Shapen. We will have them later this spring in the US at Anya’s Shop.

Origo Huarache Woven Mary Janes

Origo and I have been working hard on these basket weave flats and I am so excited about them!! They are delicate, they are elegant, they are comfortable. After a long wait, the woven ballerinas are available!

In other huarache news – we have Huarache sandals in wide now, and will be adding a couple new colors to the line up. See my Huarache line with Origo shoes here, and use code ANYA for 10% off.

Mukishoes Clogs & Sandals

Side by side collage of Mukishoes Clogs and double strap buckle barefoot sandals

Mukishoes nailed it with the Soca and Nazare – they are 100% on point in terms of style and the materials are buttery soft and flexible. Even the colors are perfection. I know many of you are anxiously awaiting styles like this made barefoot friendly, and these are it!

They are also available at Mukishoes in the EU, where you can use code ANYAMUKI for 10% off.

A collage of 5 different barefoot shoes with fun prints and patterns

So you hate squished toes and being uncomfortable. But you’re not boring and don’t want to dress like it!! I got you friend. Wide toe box shoes can be as full of personality as you are.

Here are some new barefoot shoes with pizazz that I am particularly excited about for 2025. Because being comfortable and taking care of your body doesn’t need to be a drag.

A graphic showing two silver mary janes side by side. On the left is a shoe with a wide anatomical toe box and on the right is a typical dress shoe with a narrow point toe box. Text superimposed over the image reads "For happy feet wear this, not that" with the logo Anya's Reviews in the corner.

PaperKrane Neon Low

Use code ANYA10 for 10% off

Ok how fun are these. PaperKrane is an Australian brand that specializes in the wild and wacky. Their rainbow soles have been around for a while now, but previously were too narrow for me. Recently PaperKrane moved to a wider toe box shape, and they now are an excellent fit for me! Woot! This pop of color is just what I need after a long dreary winter.

Annotated image comparing Neon Low PaperKrane fun colorful barefoot sneakers to a conventional pair that is similar but has a large foam heel rise and narrow toe box. "Wear This" arrow is pointing at the barefoot sneaker, and "Not That" is pointing at the traditional sneaker.

I love that the rainbow is both unexpected and subtle along the bottom of the shoe. Just enough for a bright splash of fun, without being over the top. The shoe is also really soft and comfy.

My only complaint is that I found the laces difficult to tighten, and the shoe kind of pooched unevenly on my low volume feet when I did. So I tightened just the top portion. They come with a removable insole, and I am wearing mine with the insole.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size – Mine are a size 37 and they fit as expected, with enough room all around.
  • Wide toe box – suitable for average and wide feet, but probably not extra wide.
  • Medium to high volume – they come with a removable insole and can be tightened over low volume feet, but I found the laces were kind of hard to pull tighter. Instead I added an additional insole.

PaperKrane offers exchanges or store credit only if your shoes don’t fit or you change your mind. If ordering internationally please keep this in mind. You can sell shoes that don’t fit online.

Lisbeth Joe Paris

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off

You’re going to be seeing a lot more silver this year, and I am loving it! Lisbeth Joe recently updated their Paris mary janes, and I think they are so cute.

They have a touch more cushion than you typically find on barefoot dress shoes, making them a good option for teachers or those who are on their feet a lot. And the scallop detail on the opening is a nice touch – they look more elevated than a typical mary jane flat.

My main issue with the Paris is they are quite high volume, so they gape on the sides and above my foot. I have a pretty skinny foot, so it wouldn’t be so obvious on a fuller foot. They also make my feet sweat, but that doesn’t bother me personally.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size – I have a size 6.5 in my Paris, which is typical for me in flats. I sometimes size down to a 6 in dress shoes, but when there is a strap I like 6.5.
  • Medium width – they are definitely wider than most shoes, but the toe box is rounded and may not be suitable for those with a wide toe splay. I can feel my toes on the sides slightly.
  • High volume – there is some gapping above my low volume foot.

Ohne Project

Use code ANYAOP10 for 10% off

Ohne project has been around a few years, but I haven’t yet written about them because for a long time they had very low inventory. They are now picking up speed with new models and have lots more to choose from! These sneakers are super cool looking, with fun pops of color. At the time of this writing, many are also on sale (and my code above gets you an extra discount).

Annotated image of pair of chunky barefoot Ohne Project vegan sneakers with purple accents compared to a conventional heeled sneaker with a narrow toe box. "Wear This" is pointing at Ohne shoes, and "Not That" at the conventional pair.

Just note that while the sole is flat it is not super flexible, so they have a bit more of a traditional sneaker feel.

Ohne shoes are entirely vegan, with the “leather” upper made of recycled corn waste (not sure what that is…) and organic cotton. Typically I don’t love faux leather, but this material is pleasant and doesn’t look cheap or plasticky.

A woman in full length flare jeans and a taupe sweater stylish Ohne Project Sneakers near her front door. Her front leg is popped showing off the wide toe box and flexible outsole of the shoes

They have a terry cloth lining, which makes them feel warmer than usual, so they felt too hot for me in summer. I got good use out of them in the fall though and expect to wear them through the spring.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size – Mine are a size 37, my typical sneaker size. I have just enough room all around my foot.
  • Wide fit – These are generous in the toe box, but not quite wide enough for Samantha.
  • Medium to low volume – they come with a removable insole and fit on the lower volume side even without the insole. With the insole in they are quite fitted on my shallow feet. So I don’t think these would work well for a high volume foot.

Ohne Project doesn’t accept returns outside the EU – so if ordering internationally please be aware. You can sell shoes that don’t fit online.

Jenon Leather Flats

Use code JENON11 for 10% off

Jenon leather is a great brand for the adventurous barefoot-shoe-wearer, because you can have your shoes custom made in tons of different color options. Our favorites are the Joplin flat and Villet Mary Jane. The Joplin isn’t exactly new (we reviewed them back in 2022), but the Joplin Rock and Villet are recent additions and they have new custom color options.

Annotated image of a pair of Jenon Leather Joplin barefoot strappy flats with an arrow that reads "Wear This" and another image of a similar style shoe with pointy toes and a heel that reads "Not That"

Above is the regular Joplin, a personal favorite of Samantha’s, who is always on the hunt for beautiful shoes that fit an extra wide foot.

A full body photo of a woman in a raspberry pink knee length dress standing in front of her front door. She is flanked by dead plants and is smiling at the camera. She has on floral Jenon Leather J Joplin wide toe box fun shoes.

My pair of Villet are in a very neutral tan, but they could be made in whatever color you want for a pop of fun. The Villet is more my style compared to the Joplin. And mary jane flats are very trendy right now!

Jenon Leather Villet Flats product photo black barefoot mary janes

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size – Mine are size 37, Samantha wears a 38
  • Extra wide toe box – I have extra room in mine, and they are wide enough for Samantha
  • Medium to high volume – They work on my low volume feet with the insole, but it can be removed if you need more space. Samantha removes her insoles.

Coming Soon – Be Lenka Rebound

These are currently available for preorder direct from Be Lenka in the EU (use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off), and you can sign up for restock notifications for when they arrive in the US at Anya’s Shop.

I am really excited about these printed Rebound sneakers coming from Be Lenka soon. The Rebound sneaker was around last year too, but the prints are brand spankin’ new! They are canvas, so priced a little cheaper than other barefoot sneakers and have a really comfy universal fit.

Annotated image of a pair of Be Lenka Rebound canvas leopard sneakers with a "Wear This" arrow pointing at the wide toe box, and a similar style pointy toe Vionic shoe with a "Not That" arrow

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size – mine are size 37
  • Wide fit – These have a lot of toe room without looking crazy wide. They fit me well and are nearly perfect for Samantha but she wishes for just a bit more big toe room.
  • Medium volume, but highly adjustable – They fit me well with laces tightened, and the insole can be removed if you need more space

A collage of 6 different stylish barefoot shoes and boots that you'll be getting compliments on, including Shapen Sheen, Dalia Taupe loafers, Koel Ila, Groundies Denver, Koel Fiona, and Bohempia Felix

When you want people asking where your shoes are from but you DON’T WANT to sacrifice any of your toe freedom….you come here! The comfort of wide toe box barefoot shoes is unparalleled, but it doesn’t mean you have to look frumpy.

Here are a few of this season’s hottest shoe styles, made comfier and healthier. It’s your fall & winter fashion 2024 edit for hot people who don’t mess around with foot pain!

See all my Stylish Shoes But Make it Barefoot guides here! Now let’s get to today’s drip.

Cowboy Boots

Western boots are here in a big way. But most of us aren’t wearing them in stirrups, so there is no need for the heel!

Koel Fiona

Leather | Leather lined | Sizes EU 36-43

First up is the two toned Koel Fiona – classic western styling, barefoot comfort. They have a side zip for easy on and off, and a pretty secure fit around the heel so you aren’t sliding out (woot!). Koel quality is great, but hasn’t been easy to get here in the US until now.

They are best suited for medium volume feet, but also work pretty well on my low volume feet (I just need a sock on). So I am really happy about that! They are leather lined and medium width in the toe box – so good for average and wide-ish feet, but not extra wide.

A woman standing in the street in front of fall leaves scattered around wearing a flowy beige dress, green sweater, and Koel Fiona wide toe box barefoot western cowboy boots

I personally can’t figure out how to style them with jeans, but a flowy dress or mini skirt is an excellent pairing. In the winter I’ll pair them with these fleece tights and toe socks, which is my favorite way to stay warm in dresses all year.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Medium width – will work for many wide feet, but not extra wide
  • Medium volume

Groundies Denver

Suede | Textile lining | Sizes EU 36-43

Another cowboy style boot is the Groundies Denver. These are black suede and have a felt lining for cooler days and side zip. They are a western take on the riding boot, and I love it. The material is really soft and comfortable, and the sole is still grippy and functional.

Full body view of a woman in a camel colored suede mini skirt, black turtle neck, and stylish western inspired barefoot boots from Groundies.

They also aren’t super gapey and floppy, which sometimes happens with cowboy boots. However, they are not well-suited for extra wide and high volume feet because of the closer fit around the foot and heel.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size, but I can size up for some extra space and wear thicker socks with them.
  • Medium width – the upper does stretch wider, but they are not super wide shoes.
  • Medium volume – the volume will also stretch some, but they may be tight on people with high arches.

Retro Sneakers

The low profile retro sneaker is here. When I was in Portugal this summer I saw Adidas Sambas eeeevveeeerywhere. The options here have a similar vibe, but are wider toe box for more comfort.

Koel Ila

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 (Ila), 40-48 (Ilo)

If you’ve been wanting that Sambas look but without the squished toes, the Koel Ila is the shoe you need. They have a flush fit, a quality leather upper, and are soft and comfortable. In fact, these are one of the best fitting sneakers I’ve tried in a while!

The toe box is wide, but the shoe is still fitted and secure. I swim in a lot of barefoot shoes because I have a low instep, but these are like a glove on my feet.

A top down view of two pairs of feet standing toe to toe wearing Koel Ila wide toe box barefoot retro sneakers. Left person's shoes are mint and grey colors, and the right person's shoes are cream with navy stripes.

The men’s size range is called the Ilo. Besides bigger sizes and just a bit more volume, they are identical in shape and style.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size – I am wearing 37
  • Wide fit – will work for some extra wide feet. Comparable to Peerko sneakers.
  • Medium volume – removable insole makes for more versatility. Fit my low volume feet perfectly with insole.

Bohempia Felix dark gum

Hemp Canvas | 2 Widths | Sizes EU 36-47

I love that the Bohempia Felix has all the retro vibes, including a thicker gum sole, but still has a flexible minimalist feel (the sole is thinner than it looks). They also come in two widths, for both average and extra wide feet.

They have all the right details to be interesting, but still style as a neutral.

A woman with long brown hair standing in the road in front of grass and trees smiling at the camera wearing wide leg jeans, a white tank top and Bohempia barefoot wide toe box retro sneakers, the Felix in Dark Gum.

If you’re in the EU, you can shop these directly with Bohempia and use code ANYASREVIEWS to get 10% off!

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Average to extra wide width (two width options)
  • Medium to high volume with removable insole. They are a little loose on me even with the insole, but ok if I tighten the laces.

Loafers

I don’t think loafers will ever go out of style, but particularly lately they are very on point. I’ve even been seeing square toed loafers in mainstream fashion. We are ahead of the curve here. Here are a couple great ones for this fall.

Dalia Taupe

Nubuck | Sizes EU 35-45

J’adore taupe. In fact, it’s been on my mind for a while to introduce a taupe colorway of these fan-favorite Dalia loafers that I designed for Anya’s Shop. They are an elevated neutral that works for virtually any cut of pants as well as skirts and dresses. Whenever I can’t figure out what shoes to wear with an outfit, I reach for loafers!

A woman standing out in the street among fall colored leaves wearing a sweater, jeans, and wide toe box Dalia barefoot loafers from Anya's Shop in taupe nubuck color.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Medium to wide width
  • Medium to high volume

Shapen loafers

Leather | Select models in 2 widths | Sizes EU 35-44

You can use code ANYA5 to get 5% off, but note that they don’t accept returns outside the EU.

Shapen dropped some new loafers and the style is a breath of fresh air. The Versa comes in two widths, like their flats – wide is extra wide friendly and regular is good for average to slightly wide. If you loved the Be Lenka Viva but wanted more room, this is for you!

A side by side collage of the same woman wearing two different versions of barefoot loafers from Shapen to show how to style them. On the left is the black patent leather Shapen Sheen with an extra wide toe box styled with a blazer, and the right is the beige Shapen Versa with a gold chain styled with wide leg corduroy olive green pants.

The Sheen loafer only comes in an extra wide fit, and remind me of Doc Marten loafers! I sized down in both, like I typically do with Shapen flats. They’re a little high volume for me, but overall I like!

Sizing & Fit:

  • Runs on the large side – I am wearing a 36.
  • Average or extra wide fit (depending on model and width)
  • Medium to high volume – I am wearing both with an extra insole, and may add a tongue pad later too.

Leopard Print

Leopard print is making a comeback, and I especially love leopard print shoes – it’s just the right amount of print without being overwhelming. One of my favorite leopard print shoes is the Groundies Sienna

Groundies Sienna

The Sienna is a chelsea with modern vibes and cool details. Not as dressy as some chelsea boots, but they are cool and sophisticated. I like that the leopard print is softened a bit with the black edging. The edging around the toe box also serves to disguise the width.

The downside is that they are only medium width, and won’t stretch a lot if at all in the toe box. So I wouldn’t recommend for extra wide feet.

Sizing & Fit:

  • True to size
  • Medium width – they are best for average feet.
  • Medium volume – may work for some high volume feet. A little loose on my low volume feet, but good with socks on.

I love a perennial boot look that never goes out of style – those models you can rely on year after year for effortless fall fashion! What I don’t love is having squished toes and hurting feet. So I’ve swapped all my old boots for wide toe box barefoot alternatives. And thank goodness there are pretty ones out there!

This is my barefoot style series where we find comfier alternatives to cute and trendy shoes. Today we’re featuring new barefoot versions of the classic boot styles that are trending for fall! Enjoy!

And before we get into it, I just want to remind you that you can add your own insoles to many barefoot shoes! This lets you customize the thickness, cushioning, and support in your wide toe box boots.

Peerko Empire

A rustic tall leather lace up boot is a bold statement, and the new Peerko Empire Brandy color is the perfect warm fall hue. I like to pair them with skirts and dresses of all lengths (they’re particularly sexy with a mini skirt). Combine the great style with a roomy toe box, side zipper, and thin fleece lining and it’s love all around.

I have a deep love for Peerko boots because they look really clean and sophisticated and have a generous toe box. It’s not ultra wide, but wide enough to fit most foot types without looking excessively big.

With this warm Brandy color I like to pair cream or beige socks, such as:

  • Injinji boot toe socks in Coyote (I use a seamripper to get rid of the red tag)
  • Cuddl Duds over the knee socks – these are very soft and stretchy so fit much roomier than most socks (shown on me at the beginning of this article)
  • Or instead of socks, fleece lined stirrup tights – this is just one example – you can find them in different thicknesses and shades. I have a brown translucent pair that works well.

You can find even more boot socks and tights I like in my foot friendly sock article! And you can read more details about the fit and feel of the Empire in my Peerko boot review.

Origo Adventurer

Ankle height lace up boots are even more versatile than their taller counterparts, and this rustic heritage-inspired look is very much trending. The Origo Adventurer is a new boot for 2024 with different DNA than you typically find in barefoot shoes.

They are made using traditional shoemaking techniques with a top-stitched upper and the softest breathable leather. The Vintage Brown colorway is shown here. It creases and scuffs, the way natural uncoated leather tends to, but I love that in this style of boot. It’s giving earthy and natural. And if you’ve ever lamented the stiffness of a quality leather boot you will love how light and flexible the Origo Adventurer is.

I do think you lose some durability with a barefoot construction, but these boots can be repaired at a cobbler many times over. The outsole is stitched on, so can’t easily be removed and replaced – but you can glue an addition rubber outsole over the top of it.

The toe box is also quite generous and should fit even extra wide toes, while still being cinchable though the rest of the shoe for a secure streamlined fit.

I am wearing a size women’s 7.5 and have room for socks and plenty of toe splay. They come in men’s sizes too and seem to run generally true to size while being on the roomy side.

Shapen Maverick

The black combat boot look is another classic that can be styled many ways – whether it’s more edgy and grungy, neutral, or even a little bit dressy. And two new barefoot alternatives to the ever-popular Doc Marten or combat boot style are coming to market this year. First up we’ve got the Shapen Maverick which is the closest to Doc Martens with yellow stitching (on the black colorway) and a glossy finish.

A woman standing in front of a graffitied wall, looking off to the side wearing a denim dress, tights, and red burgundy wide toe box barefoot Shapen Maverick combat boots.

They are light, flexible, and have an extra wide toe box for max comfort. But even with that toe box width the shaft skims the leg for a sexy fit. I love them! They also come in a burgundy red that I am almost in love with more than the black.

Shapen boots fit roomy over all, with a lot of volume. So I always wear an extra insole with mine! Read last season’s Shapen boot review for specifics.

Another new barefoot combat boot for fallb is the Xero Shoes Breckenridge (shown on my feet above), which is a little more subtly detailed.

They are a great perennial style that can be dressed up or worn casually. They fit the best of any Xero shoes I’ve tried so far, with more room in the toe box and a closer fit through the heel and ankle. And they’re versatile too with a functional outsole that can be used for light hiking and outdoor use as well as casual wear. Find more fit details in my Breckenridge review.

A couple other Doc Martens alternatives I love:

  • Peerko Go – I don’t know what else to say about these except that I adore them.
  • Mukishoes Igneous – light and flexible with a wool lining (so more winter friendly than the other options).

Hard to go wrong with any of them! Find more details and options on barefoot combat boots in this article.

Xero Ridgeway Chelsea

a top down view of a person's feet standing on concrete wearing chelsea boots. On the left foot is a wide toe box Xero Ridgeway barefoot chelsea boot in brown leather with the text "Wear this" and on the right is a Blundstone boot with a narrower tapered toe box with the text "not that."

Leather | Sizes US Women’s 5-12

The rugged Chelsea boot, like Blundstones, is a chunkier look than other low profile dressy Chelseas. They lend themselves to more casual wear, but can also be stylish since the platform look is very much in right now.

The Xero Ridgeway Chelsea is new this year and captures that aesthetic well – they are built on a sturdy outsole with tread and have that unpolished leather finish. They lend themselves well for those seeking the Blundstone style, and for those who want a functional outdoor pull-on boot!

You can read more details about them in my Xero Ridgeway Chelsea review. Another alternative to Blundstones that we also love is the Lems Chelsea! And Lems is coming out with a more rugged version called the Chelsea Tuff this fall. if you’re outside the US, shop Lems EU here.
